These are some of the words that mean the most to me after 20+ years of helping students learn and grow.

Because here's what I've learned: Better grades are great, but seeing students gain confidence, take ownership, and realize what they're capable of? That's even better.💙

Sometimes a low grade isn't because a student doesn’t know the material.

It’s that they’re leaving points on the table by missing part of the directions, not showing enough thinking, overlooking the rubric, or making avoidable mistakes.

That’s exactly why I created The Teacher’s Lens. 👀

A student may know exactly what they mean, but the teacher can only grade what actually makes it onto the page.

That means strong answers need to show the thinking.

Instead of stopping at:
“The character changed.”

Push it further:
How? Why? What proves it?

The goal is not to write more just for the sake of writing more. It is to make the thinking clear enough for someone else to see it.

Better grades do not always start with more studying.

A lot of students are losing points on work they already know how to do.

The issue might be the directions, not showing enough thinking, missing a required detail, putting effort in the wrong place, skipping the final check, or repeating the same mistake over and over.

That is why I want students to ask one question first:

Where are my points going?

Once you can see the pattern, you can fix the pattern.

Small changes can make a big difference.
