LES is so excited to welcome our new school-based therapist to the campus. Ms. Macy and I will work closely together to provide the care that our students need. If your students have seen the SBMH therapist in the past, Ms. Macy will contact you; I will introduce students to her so the transition will be as smooth as possible. If your student has not seen the SBMH therapist in the past, but you would like to have him or her referred, please contact me at [email protected]. We are so excited for this year. It’s going to be great.

4 Easy Ways to Cut Back on Added Sugar πŸ“πŸ₯€

You don’t have to give up every sweet treat to make healthier choices. Small changes can add up over time!

Here are 4 easy ways to cut back on added sugar:

πŸ’§ 1. Choose water more often
Swap soda, sweet tea, and sugary drinks for water or unsweetened options.

πŸ”Ž 2. Check the label
Compare products and look for options with less added sugar. You may be surprised how much sugar can be hiding in everyday foods.

🍳 3. Start with breakfast
Try plain oatmeal, unsweetened yogurt, or whole-grain options and add fresh fruit for natural sweetness.

🍎 4. Choose smarter snacks
Fresh fruit, nuts, yogurt, or popcorn can be simple alternatives to packaged snacks with added sugars.

Remember, it’s not about being perfect, it’s about making small, healthier choices when you can.

Small changes today can support better health tomorrow!

In 2019, the Arkansas State Legislature passed Act 629, which authorized school districts to establish their own police departments.

This spring, after careful consideration, the Lavaca Public Schools administration and Board of Directors unanimously determined that having a dedicated, on-duty law enforcement officer on our campuses was in the best interest of the safety and security of our students and staff. As a result, the district began the process of establishing a school-based police department.

On June 9, 2026, after meeting all required qualifications and standards, Lavaca Public Schools received authorization from the Arkansas Commission on Law Enforcement Standards and Training (CLEST) to establish the Lavaca Public Schools Police Department.

Our Director of Safety and Security, Scott McDonald, now serves as Chief McDonald and will provide a consistent, on-duty law enforcement presence across our campuses. His role will focus on maintaining a safe and secure learning environment while supporting the students, staff, and families of Lavaca Public Schools.

It is important to clarify that the Lavaca Public Schools Police Department is a separate law enforcement agency from the Lavaca Police Department. Our school police department will work collaboratively with local law enforcement and other emergency response agencies whenever necessary to ensure the safety and well-being of our school community.

HEY ARROWS!! πŸ’œπŸ’›
Hope everybody is having a blast and Staying Hydrated πŸ’¦ Just wanted to send out an early reminder.. if your student has immunizations due, NOW is a great time to get it done and over with! Sometimes waiting until the last minute is much harder getting an appointment as most places will become booked up fast. Immunizations can be done at most Primary Care Providers (call to confirm), many pharmacies can complete them, and as always any local county health department.

If your student currently has or plans to obtain an exemption, THESE MUST BE RENEWED EACH SCHOOL YEAR. Please visit https://onlineimmunizationexemption.adh.arkansas.gov/WebsiteContent/Home-Page.aspx for information regarding the application process. These application approvals can take time so get started early!

***IT IS THE PARENT/GUARDIAN RESPONSIBILITY TO GET THESE COMPLETED AND TURNED INTO THE SCHOOL NURSE AT THE BEGINNING OF THE SCHOOL YEAR***
