Laurel School District’s Project AWARE Council is bringing together parents and guardians, educators, school staff, community leaders, faith-based organizations, mental health professionals, youth advocates and local business owners to help shape the future of student wellness and resiliency in our schools.

Council members will have opportunities to share ideas, advocate for students and families, connect schools with valuable resources, and help build healthier, stronger and more supportive learning environments.

The first day of school for all Laurel School District students is Wednesday, July 22, 2026, and we're excited to welcome everyone back!

As you prepare for the new school year, please take a moment to review the updated Mississippi Attendance Law, which is effective this school year. Understanding these new attendance requirements will help ensure your child has the best opportunity for academic success and stays on track throughout the year.

✅ Most importantly, if you have not registered your child for the 2026–2027 school year, please do so TODAY.

Students must be registered before they can attend school. Any student who is not registered will not be able to attend on the first day of school.

DRAGONS, IT’S TIME TO COME HOME!

On Friday, September 18, 2026, we’re honoring the proud history and lasting legacy of the Oak Park Dragons in a very special way.

The Laurel Golden Tornadoes will take the field wearing Oak Park Blue for our annual Dragon Night, and this year, we’re taking the celebration back to the historic Oak Park football stadium, where generations of Dragons once played, cheered and made memories.

And we want our Oak Park alumni there with us!

As part of this special night, we plan to recognize and honor former Oak Park students and graduates in attendance. If you are an Oak Park alum and plan to join us, please take a moment to complete the alumni form linked in this post.

Completing the form is NOT required to attend the game. It simply helps us estimate how many Oak Park alumni may be joining us so we can prepare for the recognition and make this celebration worthy of the Dragon legacy.

New Student Bus Passes Begin Monday, August 10, 2026

Parents and Guardians,

Laurel School District will begin using its new student bus passes on Monday, August 10, 2026. This new system is designed to strengthen student safety and help families stay informed about their child’s transportation.

Please keep the following information in mind:

Each bus pass is assigned to one student and one bus.
Students may only use the pass for their assigned bus.
Transportation will only be provided to the student’s address listed in SAMS.
Bus passes will not be issued for transportation to alternate locations.
A parent app will be available to help families monitor their child’s bus transportation.
