Hammond Middle was recognized by the Maryland State Department of Education as a Maryland Blue Ribbon School of Excellence in 2008 for accelerating student achievement and improved student performance on the Maryland State Assessments. In addition, HMS was selected as a 2009 National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence by the U.S. Department of Education. Established in 1971, our school is an 86,000
square foot facility on 35 acres located in north Laurel. Our community is very stable and well established. The school and community share the same positive characteristics and are united in a very effective partnership that is reflected in our mission statement. The success and stability of Hammond Middle is attributable to the competence of our staff and the involvement and support of our parents and community. The staff exceeds expectations to support student achievement. The PTA is well organized and extremely active. As a result, there are many support and enrichment activities. Although Hammond Middle has served its students and community well for over 40 years, we are not content to maintain the status quo.
