9/29 LESSON THREE: Last week we reviewed the distinction between Law and Gospel. As we take up the task of apologetics, or making a defense of our faith, we remember first and foremost that our goal is not to win arguments, but to win PEOPLE. And People need to hear Law and Gospel. Sometimes they need help seeing sin for what it is. Other times, they must be shown the Savior, in order to comfort consciences and console the burdened spirit with grace and forgiveness in Jesus.

Lesson TWO: How does this person view the world? What fundamental truths do they believe about God? What philosophies shape their worldview? How about Ethics in the world—what is good or bad, right or wrong? What is the Future toward which everything is heading? These four questions are important as we discuss the Christian faith with those who do not yet believe. But it’s important to know and learn to better grasp our own also.

Especially in this lesson, Students are encouraged to learn the vocabulary/matching definitions of Agnosticism, Athiesm, Deism, Humanism, Moral Therapeutic Deism, and Pantheism as found in the glossary of the Small Catechism. These will appear on the unit test.

Today in class, we learned about struggles many Christians go through in other countries, just to read Scripture and pray. Jesus says, “33 I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”

Per class syllabus for Confirmation: 4/21/21 is the last date with planned topic/content.

We meet 4:00-5:00pm to complete Christian Questions and their answers, a Biblical and Lutheran approach to self-examination in preparation for communion. Review catechism 37-40, 339-345. Bring your questions about communion.

This will be our final session for this school year.

6-8th Grade Confirmation Class resumes to tomorrow, 14 April 2021 from 4-5pm!

My wife is recovering well from her surgery. Thank you for your prayers for our family.

Be prepared to ask YOUR questions about communion. Our study and conversation will focus on how spiritually to prepare oneself for receiving this sacrament. We will use as a basis the Christian Questions and their Answers suggested by Luther and the early Lutherans for this exact purpose. See your catechism, pp. 37-40, 338-345.

For the remainder of the year, our class will be a bit less formal. There will still be a test as scheduled on The Sacrament of the Altar. It will include material from this portion of the catechism.
