Introducing Mr. Chris: General Music Teacher & Discipleship Mentor

Chris Chapin (affectionately known to his students as Mr. Chris) brings a powerful combination of elite musical expertise, disciplined military experience, and over five decades of deep Christian faith to his teaching. His lifelong passion is shaping the minds, talents, and faith of the next generation.

Educational Foundations & Professional Expertise

Elite Musical Training: Graduated from Washington State University in 1978, earning a dual degree: a Bachelor of Arts in Saxophone Performance and a Bachelor of Science in Music Education.

Classroom Experience: Served as a public school general music teacher for 5 years, perfecting classroom management and foundational curriculum design.

Private Instruction Master: Instructed private music students for 25 years, specializing across four primary instruments: piano, saxophone, clarinet, and flute.

Military Service & Leadership

Patriotic Excellence: Spent 15 years as a dedicated musician in the National Guard band

Applied Discipline: Translated precision military marching, timing, and ensemble teamwork directly into his structured teaching style.

A Heart for Children's Lifelong Faith: Committed his life to Christ in 1973, setting a firm spiritual foundation ahead of his university and professional career.

Family Discipleship: Partnered with his wife, Elaine, to lead, design, and actively serve in children's ministries for 25 years.

📖 Teaching your kids to read the Bible doesn’t have to feel overwhelming! It’s not about getting through a whole chapter every day—it’s about building a lifelong habit.

If you want to move past just reading "stories" and help your kids actually navigate the physical Bible, here are 3 simple shifts to try this week:

1️⃣ Teach it like a library, not a novel. Open to the Table of Contents together. Show them that the Bible is a collection of 66 different books with different styles—history, poetry, letters, and biographies!

2️⃣ Master the "Big vs. Little" numbers. Explain that the big numbers are the chapters (the rooms) and the tiny numbers are the verses (the furniture inside the room). Practice looking up biblical "addresses" like a fun scavenger hunt.

3️⃣ Start in the Gospels. Instead of starting on page one of Genesis, flip to Mark or John. Reading about the life of Jesus is the perfect, action-packed entry point for young readers.

Keep it short (3-5 verses is plenty for beginners!), ask them what the text tells us about God, and let them see you reading your own Bible, too.
