Our mission is to get 3rd-6th grade students “jazzed” about learning jazz and the parallel skills inherent in academics.. We do this through fun, interactive music presentations that teach specific skills inherent in both music and academics. We strive to engage students in multi-sensory learning, and to promote cultural diversity through exposure to the rich cultural heritage of jazz. JazzSLAM's
in-school program is part of Gold Coast Jazz Society. It is also part of the Broward County Public Schools and The Broward Center's SEAS programming (Student Enrichment through The Arts.) It includes 19 Lesson Plans with applicable FL B.E.S.T. AND Common Core Standards. There is a one hour, FREE pre-recorded quartet presentation The Jazz Education Network: Jazzednet.org and NAfME.org. It includes a brief pre & post quiz and the 19 Lesson Plans. The private YouTube presentation can be accessed at surveymonkey.com/r/JazzSLAM. JazzSLAM also has been presented as a 3 session eLearning program at CILC.org (Center for Integrative Learning and Collaboration.) This project incorporates 7 Dillard Center for the Arts high school students in the song presentations. The purpose of the prerecorded presentation (& the 3 eLearning sessions) is to bring JazzSLAM to students at any and all schools. JazzSLAM is Broward County School Board approved and meets the Florida Sunshine State Standards for Education. In total the JazzSLAM quartet has given live presentations to over 80,000 students in South Florida.
