Bearcat BEST Transition Program at Saint Vincent College Bearcat B.E.S.T. is a college-campus based transition program for individuals ages 18-21 with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The Bearcat B.E.S.T.

program was born of the need, expressed by parents of students with intellectual and developmental disabilities, for transition programming that would focus on the needs of young adults who, while they may not have the aptitude for post-secondary education, could achieve, with appropriate transition programming, a greater level of independence than a sheltered workshop would provide them. The goal

s of the program are to develop the students’ capabilities in each of the four pillar areas: academics, vocational training, activities of daily living and social skills. Program Objectives:

To increase the level of functional independence for all students in the program;

To prepare each program participant for an integrated, competitive employment environment;

To maximize independence in activities of daily living to empower each participant to live in the most independent setting possible; and

To assist each student in creating a family/community support system utilizing self-advocacy skills.

Before the festivities begin, the Bearcat B.E.S.T. students were hard at work helping prepare the grounds. From cleaning buildings and setting up tables and chairs to wiping down surfaces, our students rolled up their sleeves to make sure everything was ready for a great weekend. Our third year students had an amazing time the last two weeks putting their independent living skills in to practice while staying on campus. They used their alarms to get up and ready for class, budgeting skills, planning/scheduling skills and social skills during their ESY overnight stay. Thank you to the districts and our amazing counselors for making those two weeks happen successfully! Let's go Bearcats!

Today is a wonderful day for celebration! Laurel Valley Graphics is excited to commemorate two significant milestones!

First, let’s give a huge shout-out to Kevin, who has been with LVG for the past 5 years! Kevin joined us through the Bearcat BEST Transition Program at Saint Vincent College and has been an invaluable asset in our bindery department.

Secondly, we want to recognize our President, Kirk, for being part of the LVG family for the last 30 years! Kirk began his journey with us as an employee while still in high school and has grown to become our owner and president. Thank you, Kirk, for everything you do!

This week, our students studied the history of pizza, compared the costs of premade pizza to ingredients, and took a trip to shop for supplies. Today, they prepared toppings, made a tossed salad and fruit salad, and cooked personal pizzas on the grill.

Today, our students had the opportunity to check out the new Hempfield Park as they worked through some outdoor exercises. They completed a circuit that included cardio, rope slams, kettle bell weights, tire flips, and cycling before finishing with a relay race. This is an amazing outdoor facility, and our students loved getting to try it out!
