A follicle and a follicular unit are not the same thing. 👀

A follicle is one individual structure that produces one hair. A follicular unit is the natural group of 1 to 4 follicles that grow together from the same small opening in the scalp.

Why does this matter?

Hair density is measured by follicular units, not just individual hairs. During hair loss, follicles within a unit can miniaturize one at a time, causing a 4-hair unit to gradually become a 3, 2, or 1-hair unit.

It also changes how hair transplant numbers should be understood. One graft usually represents one follicular unit, but that graft may contain multiple hairs.

Before booking a procedure, always ask:

• How many grafts will I receive?
• What is the average number of hairs per graft?
• What size units will be used along the hairline?
• Are the numbers referring to grafts or individual hairs?

Natural doesn’t always mean gentle. 🌿

When the scalp is experiencing contact dermatitis, tea tree oil and other essential oils may intensify irritation or trigger a reaction in sensitive individuals.

Ceramides take a different approach by supporting the damaged moisture barrier and helping the scalp retain hydration.

But remember: the most important step is identifying and avoiding whatever triggered the reaction. Persistent redness, itching, burning or flaking should be evaluated by a qualified professional.

The right ingredient can make all the difference.

Your hair has seasons too. 🍂

Changes in weather can affect your hair and scalp in different ways:

❄️ Winter can increase dryness, static and breakage.

🌱 Spring humidity can change texture and frizz, while some people notice temporary changes in shedding.

☀️ Summer UV exposure, chlorine, salt and frequent washing can weaken and dry the hair fiber.

🍂 Fall may bring more noticeable shedding as hairs that entered the resting phase during summer begin to release.

But seasonal shedding and progressive hair loss are not the same thing.

Seasonal shedding is typically diffuse, temporary and accompanied by a healthy-looking scalp. Smooth bald patches, a widening part, scalp inflammation or shedding that continues for months deserves a closer look.

The season may change your hair. It shouldn’t keep taking it.

Save this guide for your next seasonal shift.

Not every scalp concern needs the same solution.

Tea tree oil may help reduce excess buildup and support a cleaner follicular environment, while zinc pyrithione is commonly used to manage the flaking, itching and irritation associated with seborrheic dermatitis.

The key is identifying what is actually happening on the scalp before choosing an ingredient. Treat the condition, not just the symptom.
