This week, after 25 years of teaching at USC, ELAC, Pierce College and Stagecraft Institute of Las Vegas, Casey Cowan Gale has retired.

Casey was always available to everyone at Stagecraft when she was teaching and forever after whenever any questions came up from any of her children. Casey brought her unique objective and creative perspective to the table every moment and we are all better thinkers for the experience that is Casey Cowan Gale every time.

Merci Casey and the world better look out for what you stir up next!

COVID cases are up. Most mandates ended months ago. So where does WA stand? In many ways, much of Washington state has spent recent months inching back toward pre-pandemic norms. But as cases start to rise again, feelings of uneasiness persist.

May be worth considering.

Stagecraft Says Goodbye

After a lot of thought and reflection, we have finally come to a decision about SILV 2022.

As much as it looks like we may be on the verge of coming out of the pandemic, there remains so much uncertainty—in the world as a whole and within the entertainment industry specifically. Which makes it impossible for me in good conscience to take the risk of holding in-person classes this summer. Nor do we think that we would be able to come anywhere close to offering the kind of experience that made SILV so special.

That would not be fair to any of our students or to what Stagecraft has accomplished over the past 15 summers.

When Don and Jane started SILV, they said we’d been in development for over 40 years, in planning for 3 years, and finally opened our doors on June 1, 2006. Each season was its own unique story, and the last 2 summers were no exception. After 13 years of in-person programs, we did our best in the face of the pandemic to provide something useful, even though it couldn’t be the kind of hands-on training that Stagecraft was built on.

Now it’s time to close our doors and trust that the 15 years of Stagecraft children will open the next round of doors.

Every single person who attended, worked with us, or taught for us will be forever part of the SILV experience. There will be just one session of SILV 2022: a virtual Grill Chat on Tuesday, May 31, from 3:00-6:00 pm Pacific Time to celebrate SILV’s 16th birthday!
