The ability to maintain dominant position is the foundation to being able to attack and finish. If you get to a dominant position and are only able to maintain for 10 seconds then it means you only had 10 seconds to finish. If you can hold position indefinitely then you have all the time in the world. This is one of the reasons why Rickson made us focus so much on positional training.
My new mount maintenance course should be coming out in a few weeks but here is a small teaser of some of things I cover.

This is a great follow up to the last video Josh Mckinney did where he shared his experience about learning from me and the first time we rolled. I wanted to share with him and his audience the things I do that allow me to still train and keep getting better even at 51 years old. I hope you all will find it helpful.
It’s definitely a different way of training and mindset than how most people are training. For those of you who want to focus on longevity, skill development, refining technique and mastery. I think listening to this will be invaluable for you

I’ll be doing a new online zoom course starting this Wednesday where we will be focusing on the Closed Guard.
The closed guard is the position that helped to make Jiu-Jitsu so famous all over the world. It demonstrated how a smaller weaker person could still defend themself and win even when fighting off their back.
When you’re on the bottom flat on your back from any other position you’re at a huge disadvantage and losing the fight. But from the guard you still have a fighting chance if you know what you’re doing.
Royce Gracie demonstrated this in UFC 4 when he fought Dan “The Beast” Severn, who outweighed him by nearly 80lbs and was also a lifelong grappler, having wrestled and been an Olympic alternate in the 1984 and 1988 Olympics.
Royce was able to survive for over 15 minutes on his back before eventually winning by Triangle choke.
If you’d like to join me and develop a deeper understanding of the closed guard the link to register is below:

Check out the latest episode of the “I Suck at Jiu-Jitsu Podcast”. Josh who’s an extremely talented black belt shares some stories and experiences and insights learning from me and the story of the first time we got to roll which is pretty funny. I’m sure a lot of people will be able to relate.
