International Physician Licensure: What Does Nevada Do Right? | Nevada Policy 02/09/2026

The United States is facing a pressing shortage of healthcare professionals. With a growing aging population and aging physician workforce, new professionals are not entering the workforce quickly enough to meet patient demand. The combination of these and additional drivers has caused the projected physician shortage to reach nearly 150,000 by 2038. The issue is particularly acute in rural areas where access to professional appointments can take weeks or months.

Transparency – The Biggest Casualty in Carson City | Nevada Policy 02/02/2026

The Nevada Legislature is bereft of transparency, and the two legislative sessions of 2025 have repeatedly underscored the issue. The legislature has exempted itself for decades from the Open Meetings Law that it expects other public bodies in Nevada to follow. When lawmakers last changed that law in 2013, they only change the wording to make that exemption even more explicit This absurd provision has enshrined a culture built on decisions made behind the closed doors.

A Safety Net That Travels: Portable Security Accounts | Nevada Policy 01/30/2026

In the past 25 years, the number of independent contractors, freelancers, and self-employed workers has tripled in Nevada, reaching 300,000. One of the key distinctions between full-time employees and independent contractors is accessibility to benefits such as healthcare and life insurance, retirement planning, etc. However, over 80% of self-employed workers would prefer to have access to similar benefits in their employment setting as well.

Special Session Live Updates | Nevada Policy 01/26/2026

In a dramatic cliffhanger on the sixth day of Nevada’s special legislative session, AB5—the ambitious proposal to pump $120 million annually in transferable tax credits into the state’s film industry over 15 years—narrowly failed to advance in the Senate, falling short by just one vote in a tense 11-12 tally. The defeat caps weeks of intense lobbying from Hollywood giants like Sony and Warner Bros., who touted the bill as a game-changer for creating thousands of jobs and transforming Nevada into a production powerhouse rivaling Georgia and New Mexico.

Nevada Doesn't Need to Pay to Be Pro-Business | Nevada Policy 01/26/2026

Nevada’s legislature just narrowly defeated $1.4 billion in film tax credits to attract Sony and Warner Bros. studios. Some supporters of the bill called it “pro-business.” They weren’t technically wrong. It was very pro those specific businesses.

But that’s not the same thing as being pro-market. The fact this bill came within a few votes of passing reveals something important about how Nevada thinks about economic development.

We’re confusing activity with prosperity.

Nevada Policy Urges Lawmakers to Reject Costly Film Tax Credit Expansion | Nevada Policy 01/12/2026

Nevada Policy testified in opposition to the proposed film tax credit, urging lawmakers to focus on real data rather than promises. Policy analyst Anahi Baghshetsyan highlighted that states like Georgia, California, and New York see just 15–20 cents returned for every dollar invested in film credits, and many states, including Florida, and Alaska, have ended their programs after poor results. With the industry rapidly changing, including streaming mergers, AI-driven layoffs, and uncertain production trends, Nevada Policy called the measure a risky gamble and urged a “no” vote to protect Nevada taxpayers.
