Also at our meeting, we had Chief Sones who is the Chief of Law Enforcement for the bureau of land management ( BLM) of Southern Nevada district. he brought with him a great deal of information and visuals to explain to our members the jurisdiction and laws that govern his authority. We got a better understanding of the training he went through and cross training with EMT certifications that is also part of their ongoing programs. Thank you so much chief for spending your evening with us.

Highlights from our last monthly meeting, our first speaker was Civon Gewelber who is a master falconer. She shared an engaging look at how Harris’s Hawks are used for falconry abatement at Las Vegas resorts, helping deter nuisance birds such as pigeons and grackles from pool deck and restaurant patio. She also brought with her one of her birds for members to see up close, making the presentation, especially memorable.
We greatly appreciate Dr. Gewelber sharing her expertise with our members.

End of Watch: Police Sergeant Douglas King

Today, we honor the memory of Sergeant Douglas King, who served the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department from August 12, 2004, until his passing from COVID-19 complications on August 23, 2021.

Sgt. King was one of the first officers to respond to the Route 91 Harvest Festival mass shooting, a testament to his selfless commitment to protecting others. He was later awarded the department’s Medal of Honor posthumously for heroic actions during a domestic violence call.

Known for his kind heart, strong character, and unwavering dedication, Sgt. King was deeply respected by his colleagues and loved immensely by his family. He is survived by his wife, Cinnamon, and daughters Scarlett, Tommi, and Hannah.

We will never forget his bravery, sacrifice, and the legacy he leaves behind.
