CCSD is planning to make revisions for distance education without a meeting. I highly recommend parents not agree to this. Parents/ Guardians have the right to a mutually agreed upon date and time for an IEP meeting You are the most important IEP team member and your attendance and participation is important. Schools should not say they can only provide one specific time and day. They must work with you. When you get the written prior notice for the meeting, and the day and time does not work with your availability or someone you want to bring to the meeting, then report back in writing that you cannot attend. I recommend you also send back at least 3 possible dates and times you are available. This procedure may have to go back and forth several times as you are trying to come up with the mutually agreed upon time. The school district is use to this so do not feel pressured to agree to a date and time that will not work. I do recommend to try scheduling well in advance for your annual IEP so that it allows for time to set up the date, ask for the data and the draft of the IEP.

Parents that are currently having IEP’s by phone or virtually should have the draft IEP emailed to you prior to the meeting. I recommend not agreeing to the IEP until you have reviewed all agreed upon changes to the IEP. If an IEP was not completed during the meeting you can reconvene at a mutually agreed upon date and time. You have the right to fully participate and have the appropriate time to do so.
