Our next Star Party is coming up fast! Join astronomer and College of Southern Nevada professor Matthias Schmitt next Saturday, October 10, from 6:30 - 9 pm, as he explores UFOs, alien claims, Hollywood’s portrayal of extraterrestrial life, and the Drake Equation. Learn how astronomers evaluate extraordinary evidence and spot misleading arguments in the search for life beyond Earth. The presentation will be followed by stargazing, a constellation tour, and telescope viewing! Our naturalists and rangers are bringing you a full month of hands‑on adventures, from fun family programs to various exciting hikes to daily visitor center strolls that showcase the canyon’s many wonders. Join us for an exciting informative fossil day, test your knowledge at Red Rock Trivia, learn about the wonders of birds on a bird walk, join us for a fun family program or learn about the beauty of lichen. However you love to connect with your public lands, October is packed with programs that'll bring you closer to the canyon.

Welcome to rainy season in Red Rock Canyon! The rain is pouring, there’s lightning charging up in the clouds, and things are getting spooky! We are so happy to see our visitors enjoying the rainy weather. Please make sure to drive safely while the roads are slick, and avoid doing any rock climbing! Our sandstone is extremely fragile and can break when wet. It’s best to wait at least 48 hours after rainfall before attempting to climb! As we move into cooler weather, we will also be transitioning to Time Entry Reservations as of October 1st. Have any questions? Call our hikeline at 702-515-5367.

This fall we will be starting up our Pre & Postnatal Walks in the Park! Join an interpretive naturalist at the Red Springs Boardwalk for a leisurely walk to learn about how different animals face parenthood in the wild followed by a guided stretch that is meant for folks in all phases of pregnancy and parenthood. Each stretch will also have modifications so that anyone can participate. Please feel free to bring any of your little ones along with you, whether they are newborns or toddlers!

Please always check with your physician before doing any additional activity, even this one! We hope that everyone is able to listen to their bodies to do what works best for them.

Join Sprout Scouts and discover the fascinating plants of Red Rock Canyon. Designed for ages 8–11, this program invites children to become nature detectives through movement, storytelling, and arts & crafts as they explore the special adaptations that help plants survive in the Mojave Desert. Each month, Sprout Scouts will investigate a different plant species - focusing on the mesquite tree in October, Stansbury cliffrose in November, and the cholla cactus in December.

Grab your partner, your besties, your situationship, or that person you’ve been looking for an excuse to ask out, and put your knowledge to the test! Enjoy a fun, pub-trivia style evening featuring questions about Red Rock Canyon’s wildlife, geology, human history, and much more.

Location: Red Springs Picnic Area, Calico Basin

Please Note: Red Springs is located outside of the Scenic Drive

Make it a real date night! Bring some snacks and non-alcoholic drinks to enjoy while you play. Teams can have up to six people, so double dates, friend dates, and “we’re-not-putting-a-label-on-it” dates are all welcome.

Think your team has what it takes? The top-scoring team will take home a prize! Come for the trivia, stay for the company, and help us close out our Summer Series with a bang!

For this month's Teen Naturalists, explore Art in Conservation. During this program, students will discover the many different ways that art and science overlap, and how art can be used to create connections between the land and the public. This will be the last Teen Naturalist for the year, so get in while you can!
