It’s field trip time! It’s that time of year again—Red Rock Canyon school field trip registration is almost here!

Field trips are available on a first-come, first-served basis, so be ready when registration opens! Please keep in mind that field trip dates are offered by semester. Fall 2026 registration opens on August 24, and Spring 2027 registration opens in November.

Our fall field trip season is shorter due to holidays, school schedules, and other blackout dates, so please don’t be discouraged if you’re unable to secure a date this fall. More opportunities will be available when spring registration opens!

We also offer in-classroom assemblies, where one of our Naturalists comes directly to your school to teach students about Red Rock Canyon and our public lands.

Students participating in a 4th-grade field trip or qualifying assembly will receive an Every Kid Outdoors (EKO) pass, which provides free entrance to participating federal public lands nationwide, including Red Rock Canyon and Lake Mead.

Join us for our August Date Night in the Canyon: Bats After Dark!

As the sun sets over Red Rock Canyon, discover the fascinating world of bats! Explore the behavior, ecology, and incredible adaptations of these often misunderstood nighttime mammals while learning why they play such an important role in our desert ecosystem. Bats After Dark takes place at the Red Spring Picnic Area and Boardwalk. Participants should expect to walk approximately 1 mile on mostly level terrain.

When: Sunday August 16, 2026

Age Limit: 16+

This month’s Teen Naturalist will be focusing on bats! With a guided activity to learn about bat populations on the health of an ecosystem and a guided walk to search for bats, there are many ways for students to understand how a biologist works with our furry nocturnal animals in the field. As a group we will be discussing Bat Biology and how it’s adaptations allow for its survival in such a resource-limited region. This program is for teens aged 13-17, families and siblings are welcome to attend! The guided walk will be on an easy-moderate trail outside of the fee area so no fee is required.

Date: August 17th, 2026

Time: 7:00 PM – 8:30 PM

Location: Ash Springs

Age Limit: 13-17 (Siblings and other family are welcome to attend. Younger children must be with an adult for the guided walk portion of this program)

Step into the magic of the desert beneath the glow of the full moon on a guided hike in Red Rock Canyon with an Interpretive Naturalist. Through fun trivia questions and engaging conversations, explore how the full moon has inspired human history and shaped the rhythms of desert life, while discovering the mysteries of the stars and night sky. On this 2-mile (3.2 km) moderate hike, visitors will spot night-blooming yuccas, search for scorpions under blacklight, and experience the sights and sounds of the desert after dark.

The location of this guided hike will be given once registered. The trail includes uneven, rocky surfaces with minimal elevation gain. Prior hiking experience is recommended for this nighttime hike.

Dates: Saturday, August 29 and Sunday, September 27, 2026

Times: 7:30 - 9:30 p.m. (Aug. 29) | 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. (Sept. 27)

As the sun sets, the desert transforms, revealing a whole new side of the canyon and the fascinating wildlife that emerges to enjoy the cooler evening air. Join us in celebrating World Ranger Day 2026! The Visitor Center will feature rangers from a variety of job positions, drop‑in ranger trivia, and a creative letter‑writing station. You can also stop by to earn your Junior Ranger badge and take photos with Seymour Antelope, the BLM mascot!

Join July’s Teen Naturalist Program to learn about Becoming a Ranger. Being a Park Ranger can mean a lot of things for every public land. This program will explore the different disasters that could potentially be faced by Park Rangers, and give students the opportunity to act out scenarios as rangers. This program will not only have a hands on component, but also an overview on what applying to government positions entails and the diverse options to start a career in the outdoors. This program is tailored to students aged 12-17 years old.
