Poker players must be forever mindful that there are two ways of losing:

* Firstly - losses that are due to the law of averages and absolutely unavoidable.

* Secondly - losses that stem from the result of emotional decisions and also the lack of ex*****on in applying a basic pre-flop fundamental strategy.

This is extremely true in games where the average stack size is 100bb (big blinds) or less. In these games watching sunglassed up wanna-be pros splash chips around with a wide range is humorous and extremely detrimental to ones overall long term bankroll growth.

Remember this: we're playing for money. Not ego.

Stay focused and humbled my friends!

It's my finding that many new, aspiring poker players start his or her career off by trying to do the one thing that simply CANNOT be done: avoid losing.

We, as poker players -- will NEVER be able to totally elimate loss. Losing is part of the gig. The only thing within a poker players arsenal is the ability to apply HALT and not get stuck with "chair glue" and continue to sit in games while making piss-poor decisions or feeling emotional.

* Manage losing sessions.

* Rack up and leave if not feeling inspired to play.

* Remember the money is simply on vacation; not lost forever.

Some days one must simply get off their big, fat, lazy ass and stumble into the poker room.

50% of a winning players job is simply showing up.

During days off one can be struck with a bolt of anxiety along with thoughts and feelings that scream "I should be applying my trade ... I'm missing out on a ton of money!"

Remember this: Poker isn't going anywhere. There's always going to be another game; a new tournament starting right around the corner.

Handling ones real lifes affairs, taking breaks, and making time to stop and smell the roses is extremely important! Let's not forget why many got into poker in the first place: to lead a freedom filled life with no boss or strings attached.

Unfortunately in today's overwhelming capitalistic society fueled by greed, desire and consumerism -- it's extremely easy to become succubussed and morph into a poker zombie!

Even while ones chart is on an uptick cardplayers should be looking to take breaks. The world doesn't revolve around our hourly.

Taking a moment to breath in ... :)

It's 100% true that in the poker game of life, women are the rake.

Eliminating outside leaks by finding a suitable partner who can somewhat understand the hardships of playing for a living is:

** Rarely, if ever -- written about in any notable poker book / cardplayer article.

** Extremely underrated.

How can one focus if he/she has a partner whom is untrusting of the long hours the game requires and also a bankroll burner?

It's nearly impossible. Do your best to elimimate toxic relationships and find a suitable partner with whom to enjoy your poker journey with.

It could make or break you!

"The gambler who puts his last hundred on odd and watches the ball hop decisively into slot 18 will tell you he ~knew~ it, felt it. But of course if it had taken one more hop and landed in 19, he would cheerfully admit that such presentment often prove to be wrong." -- Ishmael (pg. 189)

I oftentimes ask myself during sessions "Are my emotions controlling thought as of now?"

This question helps alleviate many notions of superstition and tilt issues that arise throughout the day.

Even the most logistical of cardplayers must admit that at times, even a nanosecond of superstitious thoughts can creep into their brain! Remember to distinguish of these thoughts by not believing in "lucky seats" "un lucky dealers" etc.

Pick your chair based on optimal position. Do your best to find neutral ground with dealers that you dislike / are below average at their job.

Clear your mind of useless information and continue to stack solid poker decisions.

If you cannot recall who and how the last three hands were won at your table -- you're not paying enough attention.

Remember to apply H.A.L.T!

If you're:

*Hungry
*Angry
*Lonely
*Tired

Remember to take a moment or even rack up and fight another day if one of these fits your current state.
