"This week, Consumer Reports released a report looking at bacteria on turkey meat that are resistant to medicines used for humans. Scientists there tested 257 samples of raw ground turkey meat that they purchased at grocery stores around the country. They conclude that turkey meat that came from turkeys raised organically without antibiotics was significantly less likely to harbor resistant bacteria compared with meat from conventional turkeys that were given antibiotics."

Designed to grease the wheels of world commerce, the Trans-Atlantic Trade and Investment Partnership ( ) and the Trans-Pacific Partnership ( ) would force the U.S. and other participating countries to “harmonize” food safety standards. That means all countries that sign on to the agreement would be required to abide by the lowest common denominator standards of all participating governments.

It’s bad enough that Congress and the public have been shut out of these negotiations, while corporations are running the show. But even worse, the Obama Administration wants to ram the TPP through Congress using a Nixon-era process called Fast Track.

TAKE ACTION: Ask Congress to vote against giving President Obama Fast Track Trade Authority and insist that Congress fulfills its constitutional mandate to write the laws and set trade policy:

Within the House version of the Farm Bill is an amendment offered by Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) that has the potential to wipe out states’ rights to label genetically modified organisms (GMOs). The amendment includes sweeping language about regulating states’ rights to regulate food and farming.
