A major education gathering is headed to... Las Vegas! Teach For America kicks off its 35th Anniversary Summit tomorrow, bringing together educators, alumni and leaders from across the country on October 2–3. Opportunity 180 will be on-site, and we're looking forward to connecting with fellow education advocates right here in Nevada!

Teach For America invites those who believe in the power of education to join like-minded individuals for its 35th anniversary. The education summit will feature speakers from schools, politics, and many more.

We are so grateful for our partnership with Nevada State University (NSU) and the opportunity to co-host the second annual Education Summit!

More than 100 education leaders, from teachers and principals to nonprofit partners, came together with one shared goal: strengthening collaboration across institutions and recognizing that we are all in this together.

We are thankful for the community partners who helped make this event possible. A highlight of the day was a thoughtful panel discussion featuring Nevada State Superintendent Victor Wakefield, moderated by Derrell Bradford, President of The 50-State Campaign for Achievement Now (50CAN) The conversation centered on collaboration, alignment, and creating pathways that empower educators.

Presented in partnership with Opportunity 180, this year's theme, “Supporting the Whole Child, Across Every School,” brings together education leaders and community stakeholders to explore how stronger partnerships and comprehensive student support can help Nevada students thrive. We're looking forward to conversations with Dr. Victor Wakefield, Derrell Bradford of The 50-State Campaign for Achievement Now (50CAN) and other leaders working to strengthen Nevada's schools.

Nevada's next five-year education plan is taking shape, and your voice matters! The Nevada Department of Education is seeking public input on its draft Statewide Plan for the Improvement of Pupils (STIP), which outlines five priorities for improving student outcomes, supporting educators, engaging families and strengthening Nevada's education system. Families, educators, students and community members are encouraged to review the plan and provide feedback by October 21. Read the draft plan and submit your feedback.

Big news for four Nevada public charter schools! Opportunity 180 has awarded nearly $5.9 million in federal funding through Great Schools for Nevada, our Charter School Program (CSP), to help schools launch, build academic programs and expand high-quality public school options. Congratulations to Legal Prep Charter Academies, NECCA Academy, Nexus Charter School and Pahrump Valley Academy.

Rooted & Rising is an eight-month leadership fellowship designed to help emerging leaders strengthen their leadership identity, emotional intelligence, relationships and ability to navigate complex challenges.
