Did you know that Nevada law limits when a dormancy charge may be deducted from unclaimed property?

A dormancy charge is a fee that a holder may deduct from property presumed abandoned, but only when specific requirements are met under Nevada law.

To assess a dormancy charge:
• It must be authorized in a valid written contract.
• It must be applied consistently and not routinely reversed.
• It cannot exceed $5 per month.
• It may only be charged between the date the property is presumed abandoned and the reporting deadline.

Understanding these requirements helps ensure holders remain compliant with Nevada's unclaimed property laws.
