Space Cat Films on location for “Lafayette Day" on July 26 at Thornbury Farm CSA in West Chester, Pennsylvania.
Marquis de Lafayette was a French military officer and a key figure during the American Revolutionary War. During the summer of 1777, at the age of nineteen, he volunteered to join the Continental Army. On September 11, 1777, he was wounded during the Battle of Brandywine, proving his loyalty and courage. Marquis de Lafayette became a hero and symbol of friendship between France and the United States.
In 1825, Lafayette celebrated the spirit of patriotism and appreciation for the freedoms fought for in the late 1700s by touring the United States to mark the 50th anniversary of the American Revolution. This farewell tour aimed to reconnect him with the American people. The tour left a lasting impact, reminding us of the importance of community, friendship, and our American history.

Surviving hardship - Valley Forge, 1777-1778
General George Washington chose Valley Forge for his 12,000 soldiers in the Continental Army to rest and retrain. It was strategically positioned to spy on the British in Philadelphia while remaining distant enough to avoid a surprise attack. George Washington used the area's hilly terrain to his advantage.
The winter of 1777-1778 was harsh and marked by significant suffering. The army faced severe rain and mud, snow, freezing temperatures, and shortages of food, supplies, and warm clothing. One-third of Washington's troops lacked appropriate footwear. Disease and malnutrition claimed the lives of about 2,000 soldiers. Despite these hardships, the encampment at Valley Forge, lasting six months, ultimately strengthened the Continental Army, helping to forge a more unified and disciplined fighting force.

First stock exchange! In 1531, the Handelsbeurs, known also as the Antwerp Bourse and Antwerp Trade Fair, began operations as the first dedicated commodity exchange constructed explicitly for trading purposes. As the 16th century unfolded, Antwerp emerged as the dominant international trade center, surpassing the once mighty Bruges. The Royal Exchange in London, England was designed using the Handelsbeurs as a model. The Belgium Series 🇧🇪 of Space Cat Films will feature more about Antwerp. Stay tuned💫
