Time for a mid-semester language reset. 🔄📚

If your language-learning routine has started to feel a little stuck, now is a good time to check in and refresh your approach.

📖 Review something you’ve already learned.
🗣️ Speak out loud—even when you’re practicing on your own.
🎧 Listen to music, videos, or other content in your language.
✍️ Write a few sentences without looking up every word.
🎯 Refocus on one small goal for the next few weeks.

You know more than you think. 👀

It can be easy to focus on what you haven’t mastered yet. But take a moment to notice what’s already becoming easier.

Maybe you understand a phrase without translating. Recognize a word in a new context. Catch more when listening. Build a sentence more quickly. Or respond with a little more confidence.

Language learning is a process, and progress doesn’t always feel dramatic. Sometimes, it’s simply realizing that something that once felt unfamiliar now feels a little more natural.

Five weeks in… how’s your language going? 👀

The semester is moving, and you’ve probably learned more than you realize.

Maybe you can introduce yourself with more confidence. Maybe you’re recognizing words you didn’t know a few weeks ago. Maybe you can understand a conversation, read a short passage, or finally remember that grammar rule. 📚

Language learning doesn’t always feel like progress while you’re in it, but every new word, conversation, and “aha!” moment adds up.

📚 WLC 499: Application of Linguistics to the Teaching of Languages

What happens when you take what you know about language and put it into practice?

WLC 499 explores how concepts from linguistics can be applied to language teaching and learning.

Students can connect what they’ve learned about how languages work with the realities of teaching them—including how language is learned, how instruction can support learners, and how linguistic knowledge can inform the classroom.

Whether you’re interested in language, linguistics, education, or teaching, this course brings those areas together in a practical way.
