My next chapter, on purpose.

That's amazing🥹

He saw a child sleeping on clothes—and decided he couldn't look away

For Luke Mickelson, everything changed when he learned a child was sleeping on a nest of clothes on the floor.

In 2012, Mickelson and his family learned that children in Twin Falls, Idaho, were sleeping without beds.

They built and delivered a bunk bed, and when one little girl received hers, she hugged it and “couldn’t let go.” The project grew from 11 beds in its first year to 612 in 2017.

By October 2017, Mickelson faced a choice between his 18-year career and Sleep in Heavenly Peace, the nonprofit he had started to get children off the floor. He chose the beds.

“I quit my job because I wanted to do this full time,” he later told CNN. Another employer helped him support his family while continuing the mission.

That act became a movement. In 2026, Mickelson remained its executive director as Sleep in Heavenly Peace grew to hundreds of chapters and delivered hundreds of thousands of beds.

What started in a garage became a reminder that one family’s response to a child’s need can reach beyond its home.

Sometimes kindness doesn’t arrive with a grand plan. Sometimes it starts with one person seeing a need—and refusing to walk past it. ✨💖

Now that I've been sworn in to become a CASA, I'm ready to stop working at my job and do this full time. ☺️☺️

12 years ago, I had self confidence, a head full of hair and a great outlook on my life beginning.
This day, I was swearing into the Army. After 3 long hard months of starving myself to reach a goal weight of 134lbs. I was 140lbs that day. Would y'all believe the military didn't let me join 3 months earlier because of that??
I spent my next 3 years being judged on my height and weight, instead of my mind. I was a great soldier. I had potential. I had goals to be a captain one day. To lead my people with an iron fist, but also with respect. Instead, I was instilled that brains didn't matter.
I knew from day one that it wasn't going to be easy.
I faked it till I made it for 3 years, and left with huge body dysmorphia and just as bad PTSD had I been deployed to war.
Sometimes I think back and wish I never joined, but then I look at my life now, and realize I was never supposed to be in for the long run. Just long enough to learn a lesson and get what I needed from it to survive my daily life in present times.
Sometimes the life we thought we wanted is not the life God has for us. And for that I'm grateful.
I've learned discipline, pride in my battle buddies and have a status many would never answer the call for.
I also learned to have some thick skin, and learned I could speak up for myself without most ppl thinking I was being sensitive. Now I'm not afraid to say my opinion when I feel like I need to voice it. I didn't know then what those lessons were for, but they sure come in handy today👌🏽
