🎭 Interesting fact: Finley (2019) — This award-winning horror-comedy short film flips the “killer doll” trope on its head by featuring a possessed ventriloquist dummy who is actually terrible at his job. While iconic dolls like Chucky are masters of mayhem, Finley’s early attempts to murder the college students who move into his house fail miserably due to his small size and lack of experience—such as trying to electrocute someone with a toaster that isn’t even plugged in. Director J. Zachary Thurman was inspired to create the film based on his childhood fear of replicas of famous dolls like Slappy from Goosebumps. To bring the character to life, Thurman used a practical effects approach, building several different versions of the Finley puppet himself, each with a specific purpose for different scenes. 01/28/2026
