In a world where we can reach almost anyone with a tap, it’s possible to feel more disconnected than ever.

That’s why play matters, at every age.

For children, play is how they explore, build friendships, and make sense of the world. For teens, it creates room to experiment, laugh, and belong. For adults, it can be a way back to curiosity and connection.

Play doesn’t have to mean a game planned by a grown up. It can be making something together, trying a new idea, getting outside, or laughing until you lose track of time and your face hurts.

We all need spaces where we can put down our roles for a moment and simply be with one another. Watching older learners play as engaged as the younger ones drives our mission forward. Every minute, every new connection, and every invitation to the pretend cash register filled with fake money. This is why we’re here.

What happens when you’re scared but choose to move forward anyway?

Getting on a horse takes courage. Horses are powerful, unpredictable, and sensitive to our emotions. They ask us to manage our fear, trust ourselves, and connect with another living being.

We are so grateful for the opportunity to work with Horses4Heroes' The Ranch Las Vegas and bring our micro school to the ranch. Days like today and watching it unfold quite beautifully is such a moving experience. Our learners slowed down and began learning how to recognize the horses’ emotions noticing their ears, eyes, body language, movement, and reactions. They had to ask themselves: What might this horse be feeling? What is it communicating to me? How should I respond?

And that is empathy.

It is noticing before reacting. It is recognizing that another living being may be experiencing something different from you. It is adjusting your own behavior because you understand how your actions might make someone else feel.
Watching our learners become more observant and more intentional around the horses reminded me why we love this kind of learning so much.

We weren’t just teaching children how to understand a horse this morning.
We were experienceing how to understand each other.

Another Monday spotlight! Look at this girl, she has goals!

In addition, this summer, she completed her first apprenticeship helping to tutor other children with Dyslexia and reading struggles. Ring that cow-bell loud for Tilly. She is our focus for this week's, In Real Life.
