Since its beginning in 1888, the College of Engineering at NMSU has been a leader in preparing students for rewarding careers and performing cutting-edge research. Today, we offer 23 undergraduate and graduate degree programs and continually update our curriculum to meet the changing needs of the high-tech world. One of our greatest strengths is our extensive research program and our work in sever

al areas has gained widespread recognition and garnered millions of dollars of funding. Building on our strengths, we are actively pursuing projects that contribute toward engineering solutions that will help people and the planet thrive. We are participants in three National Science Foundation Engineering Research Centers: The Center for Re-inventing the Nation’s Urban Water Infrastructure, the Interdisciplinary Center of Research Excellence in Design of Intelligent Technologies for Smart Grids and the Center for Bio-Mediated and Bio-Inspired Geotechnics. Our diverse offering of degree programs gives high-tech employers a broad selection of engineering talent. We foster the entrepreneurial spirit in our students through the Aggie Innovation Space where students can work on projects and receive assistance from their peers. The Learning Communities in Engineering offers tutoring in all engineering subjects and mentoring to students. Students have for their use a number of well-equipped laboratories and research facilities. The quality of our graduates and faculty, the strength of our scholarly programs, along with our contributions to developing the engineering workforce of the future are essential in meeting the challenges of a high-tech future.

Located on the third floor of Foreman Hall in Engineering Complex III at New Mexico State University, the Eloy Torrez Family Learning Communities in Engineering is the College of Engineering’s center for fostering student success. It offers tutoring, study rooms and aplace for engineering students to build a sense of belonging.

During the 2025-26 academic year, the tutoring center had almost 5,500 visits among 967 individual students, averaging more than five visits per student. From 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekdays, tutors are available at the ELC to help students with their engineering coursework.

Last week, our Pollution Prevention and Energy Efficiency team from the NMSU Office of Outreach traveled to Santa Fe to conduct two Energy Efficiency Assessments at Santa Fe Awning and the Santa Fe Children’s Museum.

Funded by the EPA, these assessments help businesses identify ways to reduce energy consumption, lower utility costs, and implement practical no- and low-cost efficiency solutions.

The team was also joined by an EPA Grant Officer, providing an opportunity to showcase the hands-on work being done to help organizations operate more efficiently and sustainably.

We’re especially proud that an NMSU engineering student worker gained valuable hands-on experience in the energy industry through this work, putting classroom knowledge into practice while supporting New Mexico businesses and organizations.

New Mexico State University is one of only 25 universities that are part of Apple's Next-Gen Innovators Mentorship Program.

The students selected for the hands-on and virtual program will be announced in December and will have a mentor from January through May 2027.

Students should keep an eye out on their NMSU emails for details. All engineering majors will be considered for the program.

Earlier this week, visitors from Apple toured the College of Engineering including the Aggie Innovation Space.
