Have you heard the news...?

The Digital Craft Research Lab (DCRL) is now open in Devasthali Hall! This interdisciplinary studio is an exciting new hub for coursework, public programming, open lab access, and creative research. DCRL brings computer workstations, digital imaging and printing, and a range of digital fabrication equipment together in one centralized facility.

This semester we’re hosting a number of workshops with PHOTO EDITING 101 kicking-off the series this Friday, September 4, 2026. Visit the DCRL website to register!

Join us for a Visiting Artist Lecture with Andy Van Dinh!

Andy Van Dinh (b. 1988 Calgary, Alberta) is a New York-based artist whose large-format drawings, multidimensional installations, and textile pieces construct alternate realms to explore the displacement and inherited histories of the contemporary diaspora. Deeply influenced by his mother’s work as a seamstress, his practice frequently incorporates materials such as carbon transfer paper, graphite, clothing patterns, and embroidery to create fictional family shields and intricate visual narratives.

Congratulations to Professor Yashoda Latkar. Four of her works have been selected for the 2026 Border Biennial / Bienal Fronteriza, which features 31 artists from Arizona, Chihuahua, New Mexico, and Texas. It's organized by the City of El Paso Museums and Cultural Affairs Department in collaboration with the Secretaría de Cultura de México and the Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes y Literatura (INBAL).

Two of her pieces will be at the El Paso Museum of Art, and two more at the Museo de Arte de Ciudad Juárez (MACJ).

The biennial opens September 4, 2026 at the El Paso Museum of Art and September 5, 2026 at MACJ.

Dr. Michelle J. Lanteri ('16 MA Art History), an art historian and curator, participated as an invited scholar in the School for Advanced Research (SAR) and Getty Institute for Art History in Santa Fe, New Mexico this summer. Hosted by the SAR’s Indian Arts Research Center and Scholar Programs, this ten-day program facilitated seminar-style sessions and community visits to reimagine art history through equity, reciprocity, and engagement, with a deep focus on Indigenous arts and cultures.

Dr. Eowyn Kerr-Di Carlo attended a 3-day Training Program on the Scientific Methods for Art Examination in Italy this summer, hosted by the Cultural Heritage Science Open Source program. During her time there, she analyzed a Devotional Mexican painting on tin depicting the Virgin Mary standing with the Christ Child, attended by angels and cherubs in a celestial setting, executed in the popular retablo tradition of central Mexico.

"Eowyn oversees and teaches the undergraduate degree program in Museum Conservation at New Mexico State University. As part of research into the NMSU’s collection of Mexican Retablos, she is developing skills in technical analysis and imaging techniques to establish a protocol for the examination and materials study of the University’s paintings."
