The Historian Our goal is to use analytical chemistry instrumentation to non-invasively determine gender, age and Wolves play an important role in ecosystem health.

When re-introduced into forests like at Yellowstone National Park, they helped control elk/deer populations and increased much needed streamside vegetation. Our project (experiment.com/mexicanwolves) aims to non-invasively study Mexican wolves (which are rare and elusive) using their scent, so that we can get better estimates of age and gender structure of the population. This is important in informing conservation efforts and ecosystem rebalancing for forests of the Southwest.

I was a gray wolf field technician for four seasons. I think that what has happened with wolves in the northern Rockies is so tragic. It's really hard to take sometimes. Essentially, the bad guys won. I read a post on some blog interviewing a hunter near Yellowstone. He said he felt so honored to have killed a wolf. What the f**k is he talking about?
