Whitko Career Academy welding students have recently completed work on a Project Based Learning activity. The quick attach round bale spear was designed and fabricated by our students utilizing their shielded metal arc welding and plasma cutting skills.

👏 Congratulations to the following Whitko Community School Students of the Month for October 2026. 👏

⭐ Awtymn Garver ⭐ – Whitko JR/SR High School Student of the Month
Freshman Awtymn Garver was nominated by senior high teacher Jill Coulter-Smith, who said, “Awtymn always greets me and students in the hallway as she enters the classroom. She is the first to always be prepared by grabbing the materials needed for that class period. If she hears anything that is unkind said, she will redirect and correct the students while encouraging them to be kind.”

⭐ Makayla Cooley ⭐ – Whitko Career Academy Student of the Month
Freshman Makayla Cooley was nominated by Chris Neeley, the academy’s construction trades instructor. “Makayla is very deserving of Student of the Month because of the consistent effort and positive attitude she brings to class each day,” he said. “She shows up ready to learn, works hard on every project, and is not afraid to ask questions when she needs help, even if she thinks it might be an unnecessary question. No matter the task, she approaches it with a great attitude and a willingness to improve. Her consistency, effort, and positivity make her a great example for others in the shop.”

⭐ Levi Mathias ⭐ – South Whitley Elementary School Student of the Month
Levi was nominated by his fourth grade teacher, Ashley Beck, who said, “Levi is our Student of the Month because he consistently shows what it means to be a kind, caring, and responsible student. He always tries to do the right thing and sets a wonderful example for those around him. Levi works hard, gets his work done, and can always be counted on to treat others with kindness and respect. He is a sweet and thoughtful young man, and I am very proud to have him in my class.”

⭐ Cooper Stephens ⭐ – Pierceton Elementary School Student of the Month
Cooper was nominated by his second grade teacher Madison Moss, who said, “Cooper is a great role model in our classroom. He’s kind to his peers, always looking for ways to help, and constantly being a good example of our classroom expectations. He gives his best effort on his work, even when things are hard, and he’s always wanting to participate during our lessons. He comes in each morning with a positive attitude and ready to have a good day. Cooper is a great asset to our classroom.”

Congratulations to Our Culinary Arts Students! (Under the direction of our new Culinary Arts Instructor, Janet Farrington!)

We are proud to announce that our students have successfully completed the ServSafe Food Handler Course, an ANSI-accredited food safety program!

This certification gives our students valuable knowledge and skills in food safety, sanitation, personal hygiene, cross-contamination prevention, and proper food handling—skills they can use both in our culinary classroom and in the food service industry.

Their certification can help them demonstrate to potential employers that they have received recognized food safety training. It is a great addition to a résumé and can be useful when applying for jobs in restaurants, bakeries, catering, cafeterias, hotels, and other food service settings.

We are so proud of our students for taking another step toward becoming career-ready culinary professionals!

Whitko Career Academy welding students Hunter Long and Davin Day paired up to support Whitko High School's Marching Band. After returning from competition, the marching band’s aluminum command center podium had notable damage and fractured welds in the structure. Davin assisted Hunter while applying recently learned skills in the gas metal arc welding process utilizing aluminum spool gun technology.

Whitko Career Academy Welding Students Gain Hands-On Experience with New Welding Equipment
Whitko Career Academy Welding Technology students recently had the opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience by unboxing and assembling six new welding machines with the assistance of Purity Cylinder Gases representative Jassen Snodgrass.
The equipment will provide Whitko Career Academy welding students with additional opportunities to develop their technical skills and gain experience using industry-standard equipment. Working alongside a representative from Purity Cylinder Gases allowed students to not only learn about the new machines, but also to see firsthand how industry professionals support the equipment and processes used in the welding field.
Whitko Career Academy appreciates Purity Cylinder Gases and Jassen Snodgrass for their support of career and technical education and for taking the time to work directly with students. Partnerships with local businesses and industry professionals are an important part of preparing students for successful careers after high school.

The Whitko Career Academy Business Program and Instructor Taylor Warrick

Whitko Print Lab has officially completed its first order of the 2026–2027 school year! A big thank you to Whitko Welding & Construction for trusting our students with the order! Our students are gaining real-world experience in designing, printing, pressing, and completing customer orders from start to finish. We’re excited to see what this school year brings and all the projects our students will take on! Great job, Print Lab! Keep up the great work!

💧🌱 Hands-On Learning at Whitko Career Academy! 🌱💧

Mrs. Hammel’s Agriculture class spent September 1 exploring the health of the pond at WCA! Students were led by Brandon and Annabella from the Kosciusko County Soil & Water Conservation District for a hands-on lesson about macroinvertebrates and what they can tell us about water health.

Students headed into the pond to collect samples, identify the organisms they found and use their findings to evaluate the pond’s overall health. Great news — their results showed that the pond is very healthy with no pollution concerns! 👏

A big thank you to Brandon and Annabella for sharing their knowledge and giving our students the opportunity to learn about water quality firsthand.
