📚 Homework shouldn't be a nightly battle.

Join us for a free virtual workshop with Caroline Towery, M.Ed., BCET — Board Certified Educational Therapist and Founder of the Adapted Learning Center. For kids with dyslexia, ADHD, and other learning differences, homework often means cognitive overload, not a lack of effort. Caroline will share practical strategies for reducing the load, building routines that actually stick, and shifting your role from enforcer to coach.

🗓️ Wednesday, September 30 🕛 12:00–1:00 PM 💻 Live on Zoom 🎟️ Free and open to all — registration required

Hosted by Marin Parents Education Group & the Adapted Learning Center.

Overwhelm often happens when our brains are trying to hold everything at once—what happened yesterday, what needs to happen tomorrow, and everything we think we should be doing today.

One strategy we teach at ALC is simple:

Ask: “What’s important NOW?”

If your child isn’t sure, have them write down everything competing for their attention. Then cross off anything that doesn’t need their attention right now. What’s left becomes the focus.

Prioritizing helps reduce cognitive load, makes big workloads feel more manageable, and gives kids a clear place to start.

We don’t have to tackle everything at once. We just need to know what comes next. 🌱

Back to school doesn’t have to mean back to the homework battles. 😵‍💫📚

Sometimes a student doesn’t need to “try harder”—they need support that actually fits the way they learn.

At Adapted Learning Center, we help students build the skills, strategies, and confidence they need to feel more capable at school (and hopefully make evenings at home a little less stressful, too 😉).

💜 One-to-one support
💜 Personalized to each learner
💜 Reading, writing, math & executive functioning

Let’s make this the year school starts to make a little more sense.

One struggle we've had in our house this summer? Screen time. 🙋🏼‍♀️

Not necessarily how much they were on screens... but trying to keep track of it.
"I started at 2:30, not 2:00."
"I was off for a while, so that doesn't count."
"I've only been on for 20 minutes!"

It seemed like every day turned into debates, negotiations, and me trying to be the official screen-time referee... on top of everything else that comes with summer.

So we decided to try something different.

Instead of me tracking it, the kids now sign themselves in and out every time they use a screen. It gives them ownership, makes the time visible, and (so far 🤞🏼) has dramatically cut down on the arguments. Our screen-time sign-in sheet includes space to log when they start, when they stop, and even earn bonus screen time through reading, chores, walking the dog, or tidying their room.

It's not a perfect system, but it's been a huge improvement for our family.

Now I'm curious...
💬 What has actually worked in your house for tracking screen time?
Apps? Timers? Trust system? Something completely different?

I'd love to steal your best ideas!

📚 Back-to-School is Almost Here!

A new school year brings fresh opportunities—but it can also bring stress for students and parents alike.

At Adapted Learning Center, we help students build the skills that make school feel more manageable and successful. Whether your child struggles with ADHD, executive functioning, reading, writing, math, organization, or simply needs a confidence boost, our individualized support is designed to meet them where they are.

We also partner closely with parents, teachers, and specialists to create a team approach that helps students thrive both in and out of the classroom.

✨ The beginning of the school year is the perfect time to establish routines, build confidence, and put supports in place before challenges become overwhelming.

If you’ve been wondering whether your child could benefit from extra support this year, we’d love to connect. Schedule an inquiry call to learn how we can help your family start the school year strong.

Serving families throughout Marin County and beyond.

In a world that celebrates speed, it’s easy to forget that meaningful growth often happens quietly.

Every new skill, every small breakthrough, and every moment of confidence builds on the one before it. Progress doesn’t have to look dramatic to be life-changing.

At Adapted Learning Center, we celebrate every step forward—because those small steps often lead to the biggest transformations.

💚 What is one small win your child has had recently? We’d love to celebrate it with you.
