π Alumni Spotlight: Alexander A. π
The Country Day foundation builds incredible futures! We recently welcomed back Alexander Armstrong, who spent his foundational years with us from 2003 all the way through 2015. Today, he is driving groundbreaking cancer research as a PhD student, and it all started right here! π¬π§¬
After graduating from Country Day, Alex earned his International Baccalaureate diploma from Largo High School and graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Florida with a degree in Biomedical Engineering. His passion for immune engineering took him to Boston, where he worked at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School developing novel CAR-T cell therapies for pancreatic and breast cancer. Currently, Alex is pursuing his PhD in Biomedical Engineering at Duke University, leading projects to understand the spatial biology of prostate cancer and developing innovative platforms for gene delivery and wound healing. ππ₯
Alex credits Country Day with establishing an environment that enabled him to be curious and grow an independent ability to problem-solve. Through individualized learning tasks, exposure to the arts, and immersive humanities classes, the school provided him with ample resources to branch out in many directions. π¨π
Importantly, Alex highlights Country Day's international trips and humanities classes for expanding his global mindset. "You have to first see the world before you can help it!" he shared, noting how these experiences taught him to adapt, appreciate different cultures, and build stronger global relationships. βοΈπ
For Alex, coming back to visit was a nostalgic trip down memory lane, laughing about how the campus buildings and chairs seemed so much bigger when he was running through them as a kid! More than anything, he loved reconnecting with the community. For him, the people are what have always made Country Day so special.
We are incredibly proud to see how Alexβs openness, creativity, and drive are helping to shape a better tomorrow. Welcome home, Alex! π

Gathering on the court to celebrate our 8th-grade IB Pinning and our amazing Portrait of a Graduate award winners was incredibly special. π
It was also wonderful seeing our students fill the classrooms to show off their hard work, projects, and art displayed throughout the night π¨π
It was the perfect evening to reflect on all the creativity and growth our community achieved this past school year! β€οΈπ
