This week I started a new class location for homeschoolers.
We discussed how seeds travel and that plants either make seeds or they don't like this Rose of Jericho. We observed the plant go from dormant to alive in minutes with just 10mL of water.

Starting this school year, I will be ending fundraising partnership with Pinellas County Schools and will not be listed on the approved vendor list. Since 2018, Philanthrolab Science Shop has been able to provide an unique and unmatched opportunity to inspire families to have a love of Science. This bittersweet decision has come about because I have returned to being an employee with PCS as a substitute teacher.
Fundraising will still be available in Hillsborough, Pasco, Hernando, and other neighboring counties. In Pinellas, private schools, clubs, and other organizations may also still continue this service.

Philanthrolab Science Education is now an approved Step Up provider!

The Science Scholars classes held at JMJ Largo Homeschool Support Group are now available on the EMA Marketplace!

Currently the 11AM class is full, but spots remain in the 10:30AM & 12PM classes. Classes start September 14 for Semester 1. Open House event is on August 31.

Science with Stacey the Science Lady begins August 19 for 16 weeks. Register your budding biologist, future physicist, or mighty meteorologist at The Art of Science Camp
These classes are a great way to introduce any science concept that is standard aligned for K-5. Inspire a Love of Science with hands-on exploration of life, physical, and Earth sciences.

Day 5 Be Brave Like a Scientist

William Gilbert is our brave scientist who was Queen Elizabeth I's physician yet undermined centuries of accepted philosophy and navigation theory. His courage to question and replace established ideas laid the foundation of modern magnetism and helped shift science towards empirical, experimental methods in the early 1600s.

Week 4 Be Brave Like a Scientist

Karl Landsteiner discovered in 1901 that we have different blood types A, B, AB, O. We focused on learning about the heart and simulated how to find blood types.

Day 3 Be Brave Like a Scientist Camp

We focused on Elijah McCoy aka "The Real McCoy" who invented an automatic oil can for trains that improved the time to travel and safety of the operators. He also patented 57 other inventions.

Keep the curiosity going at our Classroom Drop-In from 1PM–3PM in the Nature Center Classroom! Dive deeper into fingerprint exploration, handle DNA models, and take part in the City Nature Challenge using iNaturalist 🌿📱
