Happy World Teachers’ Day to all the selfless and caring teachers that are helping to educate the next generation!
And NO thanks to Governor Ron DeSantis and his Department of Education, who missed the deadline today, on purpose, to submit a plan for Florida necessary to receive billions in federal school relief funds under the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 (ARP).
Shame on you Governor DeSantis for refusing to support for our teachers and kids!

to Fall 2020, when Dr. Grego and the PCS Board believed in science and layered Covid-19 mitigation strategies recommended by the CDC, such as face coverings, social distance, timely quarantines and notifications through the DOH, and keeping cohorts of students together such as lunch in classrooms, etc.

Throwback Thursday to August 2020 when PCSB and Dr. Grego used to care about the health and safety of our children and teachers.
" 'We have to lead with safety,' said Superintendent Dr. Michael Grego in Tuesday’s meeting. He went on to say they don’t want to solve problems which then creates more problems down the road. "
Pinellas School Board holds special meeting to discuss reopening plans
It’s a big day for Bay Area school districts. They are meeting to finalize plans for students to be back in the classroom. What that looks like depends on the school district and that could c…

From Failure Factories to Virus Factories, email, Dr. Grego at [email protected] and copy the Board at [email protected] and tell the Superintendent how Covid-19 is running rampant in your school and impacting your children and daily lives. Tell him about the risk to your household, about the lost learning hours, work hours and wages due to the lack of Covid-19 mitigation strategies. We want our classrooms open and our kids and teachers kept safe from avoidable illness. We need layered Covid-19 mitigation strategies, masks for students and staff, and timely quarantine notifications now!

Urgent Action Alert! Contact Dr. Grego at [email protected], and copy the PCSB at [email protected] and send this message:
Dr. Grego,
You should be ashamed for acting in YOUR best interest instead of the 104,000 students and 17,000 faculty and staff you should be protecting against disrupted learning, unsafe classrooms and unsanitary conditions. Forget Failure Factories, your lack of action is turning our schools into Virus Factories. We want our classrooms open and our kids and teachers kept safe from avoidable illness. We need layered mitigation strategies such as masks for staff and students, and timely quarantine notifications now!

Pinellas County Schools, it is outrageous that you are refusing to call a meeting to discuss Covid mitigation strategies. Waiting until mid-September to act, when more than 5,000 students and staff are out of the classroom is irresponsible.
Parents and Pinellas Voters, please funnel that frustration, the concern, the anger, the worry into pushing these leaders to act. Below is a sample email for you to send. And here are the email addresses: [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]

Dear School Board:
I write to you as a concerned Pinellas resident, a parent, a voter. Coronavirus is sweeping through our communities. The Delta variant is extremely contagious and largely a pandemic of the unvaccinated. Most of our students are not yet eligible to receive the vaccines.
All of our community medical experts, the AAP, the CDC and the WHO are telling us to protect our most vulnerable. Covid is ravaging our classrooms, why will you not act? Waiting until the mid-September meeting puts countless families at risk. You need to call an emergency meeting to discuss Covid mitigation strategies NOW.
We need mask mandates for all staff and all students. We need better contact tracing and quarantine notifications. It is your duty and obligation as the leaders elected to care for our schools to support the health and well-being of students, faculty and staff. With the current positivity rating and seven-day averages of Covid positives in our community, the time to act is now.
Defer to the experts in the medical field who are guiding us through this pandemic. We don't need loud, shouting parents who rant and rave about individual rights. We need to follow the expert guidance of those trained individuals who are telling us to protect our communities.
The time to act is now. Call an emergency meeting. Deal with the disruption of missed school and sick families NOW. It shouldn't be this hard to protect our most vulnerable, our most precious, our schools.

Email our School Board to demand they take action. They don't need to wait for a written order to deal with the more than 2,500 sick students and staff and 5,000 out on quarantine. We MUST act to stop the spread of Covid-19.
Email [email protected] and [email protected] to ask:
Dear Pinellas County School Board:
My children are at risk of contracting and spreading Covid-19, while you do nothing. Please call an emergency meeting to discuss mitigation strategies this week.
We need an immediate mask mask mandate, timely quarantine notices and layered prevention strategies like social distance. This isn't going away; this isn't getting better. Our children and staff deserve better. ACT NOW.

The Pinellas County School Board's decision earlier this week was hard to understand, but today's 2nd Circuit Court ruling reaffirms what we've been saying all along: Covid mitigation strategies work and we need them in our schools.
Please email and call Pinellas County Schools (727.588.6300), the Board ([email protected]) and Superintendent Grego ([email protected]) that the time to protect our schools is NOW.
Pinellas Safe Schools Coalition calls on the Pinellas County School Board to act NOW to mitigate the effects of Covid-19 in our classrooms. In the time Pinellas County School Board (PCSB) failed to discuss mitigation strategies and the Court’s decision, more than 530 staff and students have reported a Covid case, with more than 680 now quarantined. The Board’s decision to avoid Covid mitigation strategies has disrupted more than 4,600 students in their first two weeks of school.

The ruling today, by Judge Cooper of the Circuit Court, 2nd Judicial Circuit, shows us that the Governor's Executive Order can't stop school districts from implementing policies to protect their students. Mask mandates are not illegal in Florida's schools!
School Boards are most effective when they can act in the best interests of their students and staff, without interference from politics. We continue to focus on policy that protects the health and safety of all staff, students and healthy learning environments.
Which is why we're asking the Pinellas County School Board to call an emergency meeting to discuss Covid mitigation strategies to protect our kids, our staff and keep our classrooms open!

We are so proud of Caprice Edmond and the work she did to protect our staff, students and families yesterday. LET'S GO: 24 Hour MoneyDrop for her campaign.
Local elections matter - and we need to keep her on the Board. Give whatever you can - let's show the School Board that we're watching and will vote them out!
