In this video clip, my student is practicing phonemic awareness. Phonemic awareness is the ability to hear and manipulate the sounds in words.

At first, she struggled to process the word mentally. When that happens, students can lose track of the sounds they are holding in working memory.

By moving and touching each syllable part of the word, she could feel the syllable breaks and hear the sounds more clearly.
