Program Descriptions
Mathematics has applications in almost all subjects including physics, chemistry, computer science, and engineering. Biologists, sociologists, economists, psychologists, historians, and lawyers have vastly benefited from mathematics in their work for drawing conclusions and

developing novel techniques of investigation. Accordingly, the needs of pure and applied mathematicians are in high demand with a full agenda. TAMIU mathematics programs lead to an attractive future for students who may have any of the following goals: to prepare for careers in fields requiring a solid background in quantitative analysis; to further graduate work and a career in research or academia, and to teach at various levels. The applications come from theory and tools available from several areas of mathematics. We not only focus on these applications to enrich the nature of these disciplines but rather their direct interactions with mathematics. Undergraduate Degrees

Congratulations, Jose, and Carlos for being this year’s G*T Awardees!

Both Mr. Jose A. Herrera and Mr. Carlos J. Gonzalez are the recipients of this year’s master’s Level G*T (Graduate Assistant Teaching) awards. They are enrolled in Master of Science in Mathematics (MS) degree program. Jose is expected to graduate at the end of Fall 2026 whilst Carlos is in Spring 2028. There are four different track options to choose from: Thesis, Non-thesis, Education track, and Applied Statistics track among many courses in various fields. Applied Statistics track offers opportunities to learn about new data tools and methodologies, see data science in action, and network with experts. The courses cover topics such as computational statistics, machine learning, data visualization, practice, and applications. Submitting an online application (http://www.tamiu.edu/gradschool/admissions.shtml), along with a written essay and the correct fee, will grant you conditional admission into the program. This will allow you to sign up for the courses offered in Spring 2027, as listed below. TAMIU has been ranked No. 3 among the 10 best colleges for Mathematics majors in the state of Texas, according to a ranking announced by Zippia.com. Our graduates continue to dominate the workforce in Laredo and surrounding areas. Some of them are in prominent positions of leadership and thus, reaping the benefits of the program. This program has already produced over 60 students who are currently serving in the school districts, community colleges, and industries. Some even completed doctoral studies.

A Great Start – Fall 2026!

It was great to see students continue to seek faculty guidance and direction as they begin class this Fall 2026. Janet, Juan, and Judy were able to share a picture with us outside the Anthony J. and Georgia A. Pellegrino Hall. While they were there, several students approached them with questions. It was a wonderful way to connect with them and a great beginning to what promises to be an exciting semester ahead! A New Academic Year at TAMIU – Fall 2026!

The faculty and staff from the Department of Mathematics and Physics were thrilled to learn that Fall 2026 semester is around the corner as they attended the College of Arts and Sciences (COAS) Faculty Meeting that took place on Thursday, August 20, 2026, at 3:00 PM in AIC 126. This is a precursor to start of Fall 2026 at TAMIU.

Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) in Laredo officially begins classes on Monday, August 24, 2026. Tuition and fees are due ahead of kickoff, and late registration runs through Friday, August 28, 2026. Students return to campus ready to start a new academic year.

Invited to the Information Desk for “Certificate in Applied Statistics” Program and STEM-RRG Endowment scholarship Program!

The Faculty and Staff of the Department of Mathematics and Physics, and Ms. Fatima F. Leonidez, President of MST are going to be present at the booth setup in the Senator Judith Zaffirini Student Success Center starting Monday, July 6, 2026, until mid-August 2026 to promote our newly developed “Certificate in Applied Statistics” Program and STEM-RRG Endowment Scholarship Program from 11:00 am to noon MTWR.

We encourage everyone to visit the booth to support these efforts to promote the certificate program and scholarship program. Everyone’s assistance in this process is crucial and greatly appreciated.
