We are pleased to share a new working paper from Haibo Wang and Takeshi Tsuyuguchi, titled “Market Reactions and Information Spillovers in Bank Mergers: A Multi-Method Analysis of the Japanese Banking Sector.”
The paper examines the market reaction to two mergers and acquisitions (M&A) events using a multi-method analysis. The combination of several distinct methods provides a unique perspective on M&A events in the Japanese banking sector, offering valuable insights for investors, managers, and regulators concerned with market efficiency and systemic stability.

Our Fall 2025 Distinguished Student Respondent from the A.R. Sanchez, Jr. School of Business is Teresa N. Jarrell.
Teresa graduates from TAMIU with a Bachelor of Business Administration with a Concentration in Marketing, earning magna cm laude honors with a 3.746 GPA and recognition on the Dean’s List during both of her final semesters.
Teresa began her studies at TAMIU in 2010 and later returned with renewed dedication as part of TAMIU’s Closer Than Ever program to complete her degree while working full time and serving in leadership at Laredo First Assembly of God.
Throughout her academic journey, she demonstrated a deep commitment to excellence and lifelong learning, applying her education to strengthen her leadership and community service.
This dedication is evident in her work leading outreach initiatives and community events that reflect her compassion for people and a desire to bring local organizations together to serve thousands of families across Laredo. Teresa’s path reflects faith, perseverance, and servant leadership, guided by an enduring commitment to growth, learning, and community impact.
After graduation, she plans to pursue a Master of Business Administration.

The latest contribution to the CSWHT Working Paper Series comes from Haibo Wang, Jun Huang, Lutfu S. Sua, Jaime Ortiz, Jinshyang Roan, and Bahram Alidaee.
The study analyzes the high-frequency daily returns and volatility spillover dynamics for eight U.S. banks from March 18, 2022, to March 15, 2023. The authors examine the interrelationships between bank stock returns and three economy-wide variables: market sentiment (VIX), monetary policy (SOFR), and economic policy uncertainty (EPU).

We invite you to read Nana Twum Owusu-Peprah and Haibo Wang’s latest contribution to the CSWHT Working Paper Series, "From Regulation to Interconnection: Mapping the Evolution of the U.S. Interbank Market." This paper investigates the evolution of the interbank network structure among mid-size and large U.S. banks from 1984 to 2024 and provides novel insights into the long-term dynamics of interbank networks, the influence of regulation, and the application of advanced machine learning for financial surveillance.
