At LBJ 9th Grade Campus, learning goes far beyond the pages of a book.
After reading Rex Ogleโs powerful memoirs in their English classes, our students had the unique opportunity to participate in a virtual author visit where Rex courageously shared his personal story and experiences with domestic abuse, poverty, and generational trauma. His visit sparked meaningful conversations and challenged students to think deeply about resilience, survival, and hope.
But the learning did not end there.
To extend the impact of this experience, Librarian Analine Johnson hosted a special *Page into Purpose* event, transforming powerful literary themes into real-world understanding and support. Students engaged with a community guest panel representing local organizations dedicated to supporting youth and families, including child advocacy, mental health, and law enforcement professionals working to help prevent child abuse and neglect.
This meaningful event connected classroom learning to real-life resources, reminding students that they are surrounded by a strong community safety net and that help, support, and hope are always within reach.
A special thank you to Board Member Gilbert Aguilar, Jr. for helping make Rex Ogleโs virtual visit possible and for supporting opportunities that bring meaningful learning experiences to our students.
We would also like to extend our sincere appreciation to our incredible community panelists for sharing their expertise and helping students better understand the resources available to them:
โจ Leticia Vallejo and Dr. Severita Sanchez โ Childrenโs Advocacy Center
โจ Thelma Arrambula โ SCAN
โจ Enrique Rodriguez โ Assistant District Attorney, 49th District Court
โจ Xochitl Kladis โ UISD LPC
โจ Melissa Chapa Ramirez โ UISD Director of Guidance and Counseling
At LBJ 9th Grade Campus, we are proud to create distinctive learning experiences that inspire empathy, awareness, and actionโbecause every story has the power to spark change.
