Meet Christina.
She’s a mentor at One River in Middletown, NY.
We recently interviewed her as part of our Educator Showcase, and when asked if there was a special One River moment that stood out to her, her answer was... this:
"Recently, one of my teen classes expressed to me that this class was what they looked forward to the most during the week and that they love coming here. If you know teens, sometimes it can be hit or miss about how they feel towards an activity.
I was so surprised when multiple students agreed and said this was the best class and the highlight of their week. This class is notorious for getting upset when I let them know we’re headed towards the end, they literally want the class to keep going all day.
I smiled so hard and thanked them. This reminded me that even if I am a small part of their day, my class can still have a huge impact on their week. It felt really good to know that all my hard work to make my classroom feel safe, comfortable, and creative was being felt and received by the students who needed it most.”
