Dear Nursing Students,

Have you thought about experiencing healthcare in an international setting? Perhaps you have before, and are interested in another opportunity. If so, we wanted to let you know that we are offering a new faculty-led global health opportunity in rural Panama, which "goes live" this January.

We (Jill Proctor and Jesse Morse-Brady) traveled to Bocas del Toro, Panama this summer to work with Floating Doctors, and had an amazing experience meeting the team, patients, and community members. We are planning to return during the upcoming J-Term, and are offering this as a one-week study abroad opportunity for nursing and other health professions students. It is with great pride and gratitude that we share the 2026 Fay W. Whitney School of Nursing Alumni Newsletter, a special edition celebrating 75 years of nursing excellence at the University of Wyoming.

Since welcoming our first nursing students in 1951, the Fay W. Whitney School of Nursing has educated generations of compassionate, dedicated nurses who have made a lasting impact throughout Wyoming and beyond. This milestone anniversary is an opportunity to honor our history, celebrate our alumni, and recognize the faculty, staff, students, donors, and friends who have helped shape our legacy.

Congratulations to Capt. Damian Storz, a University of Wyoming Fay W. Whitney School of Nursing alumnus, on assuming command of the USNS Mercy Medical Treatment Facility.

A University of Wyoming associate professor with the Fay W. Whitney School of Nursing recently presented research focused on a newly understood phenomenon affecting cancer patients’ experiences for the Association for Netnographic Research (ANR).

Jennifer Stephens presented her research, titled “Using Netnography in Nursing Research: The Example of Cancer Ghosting,” to the ANR, a registered nonprofit corporation dedicated to advancing netnographic research globally.

“Up until our presentation at the Oncology Nursing Society Congress in 2025, oncology nurses and providers were only marginally aware of this phenomenon,” Stephens says. “Our study has helped give a voice to those who have been ghosted and has increased awareness of ghosting in the cancer healthcare provider community.”
