Snowy Range Summer Dance Festival

The Snowy Range Summer Dance Festival provides high quality summer dance training.

The Festival is a ten day long dance intensive workshop hosted at the University of Wyoming in Laramie, WY.

One additional faculty reveal!

We’re super excited to welcome Ty Tedmon-Jones back to the Snowy Range Summer Dance Festival team! Ty will be leading full group classes throughout both festivals in improvisation, composition, and relaxation. We are so excited for students to learn with Ty!

Ty Tedmon-Jones, PhD, LPC, LCAT, BC-DMT trained as a singer, dancer, and visual artist as an undergraduate student at the University of Wyoming (BA - Art '02; BA - T & D '02) before becoming a Board-Certified Dance/Movement Therapist and Licensed Mental Health Counselor (Antioch University New England, '05). He obtained his PhD at the University of Wyoming in Counselor Education and Supervision ('24) where he is now a faculty member. Ty maintains a small private practice in Laramie: www.somaticrevelations.com. Ty was a performing member of the Hawkins-based Annie Sailer Dance Company in NYC from 2010-17 and has had a long, loving history with SRSDF (Administrative Intern '01; Assistant Director '02).

About Julianne by Julianne

Julianne is double majoring in dance science and kinesiology and will be a junior in the fall. She is from Denver, Colorado and has been dancing for 18 years now! Her favorite style is ballet. She attended a pre-professional Vaganova ballet studio in high school. She had a level 1 Pilates teacher certification and loves to teach her friends and family. She is currently working as a summer camp counselor for an elementary nature camp and loves it! In her free time, Julianne enjoys hiking and exploring the outdoors.

I am so excited to be a counselor again this summer. Snowy Range is one of my favorite weeks of the summer and I love having the opportunity to work with these amazing guest artists and faculty members. It is such a wonderful experience getting to take classes from such talented and knowledgeable individuals. I am looking forward to meeting you all and getting to dance alongside y'all this summer!

About Avey by Avey

I enjoy traveling and would like to explore more destinations.

My favorite books to read/tv series is Bridgerton.

I have 22 family members.

I am excited to be a counselor because I have attended the last three years and have looked up to those who are teaching the festival, and those who are leading it. I want to be able to help those dancers who are attending to festival, feel more comfortable and confident in their abilities, and in unfamiliar spaces with other dancers.

Cat Kamrath Monson (MFA, CLMA, RSME, RSDE) is an Assistant Professor and Dance Area Coordinator at the University of Wyoming. She leads courses in multiple dance techniques, composition, pedagogy, history, and somatic practices. Cat choreographs annually for department productions. She is the Artistic Director of Cat + Fish Dances in Salt Lake City. Cat is on faculty for Integrated Movement Studies’ Laban/Bartenieff Movement Analysis certification program. She serves as the Higher Education Representative for the Utah Dance Education Organization. Her research investigates psychologically safer pedagogy practices.

Festival co-director Juliana Freude will spend her final days in Laramie teaching ballet during the Young Dancers’ Workshop!! We are so excited to celebrate all her contributions to the University of Wyoming over the last 4 years before she moves to Georgia.

Miss Freude began her professional career with Ohio Ballet, Nashville Ballet, Charleston Ballet Theatre, Connecticut Ballet, Ohio Dance Theatre, and NEOS Dance Theatre. She has performed in works such Whales by Alicia Klock, Lickety-split by Alejandro Cerrudo, Bonobo and Flight by Penny Saunders, Helen Keller by Christopher Fleming, and many others. After retiring, Juliana received her MFA in Creative Practice and was an Assistant Lecturer in Dance at The University of Wyoming from 2020-2024. She begins a new position at Georgia College and State University this fall.

Aaron M. Wood (he/him) is an educator, choreographer, dancer, and mixed-media designer. He danced with Repertory Dance Theatre, and guested with Ririe Woodbury Dance Company where he performed works by Merce Cunningham, Anna Sokolow, Zvi Gotheiner, Michio Ito, José Limón, Daniel Nagrin, and Alwin Nikolais.

Aaron’s research interests include integrating multi-media elements with diverse movement modalities to find the intersectionality of gender within social and political landscapes. His works have been performed nationally and internationally.

Christie Zimmerman is a director, choreographer, performer, and educator. Her concert and theatrical work has been performed around the country and been heralded as “relentlessly inventive” (OC Weekly) and an “unadulterated delight” (Ambush Magazine, NOLA). Christie is currently Professor of Dance at the University of Wyoming where she teaches technique and serves as Department Head of Theatre and Dance. She received her early training in New Orleans and completed her MFA in Dance from UC, Irvine. She is the founder and artistic director of z3movement project, whose appearances include the Jacob’s Pillow 80th Anniversary Dance Festival as part of the Inside/Out Series (Becket, MA) and the Dumbo Dance Festival (New York, NY). Christie is also a proud member of Dance Masters of America, as well as a member of the Dance Films Association, and an Associate Member of the Stage Directors and Choreographers Society.
