Basecamp survival LLC just participated in two days of Wilderness Land Navigation, Map and Compass Training with SAR Team members from Albany and Natrona County Search And Rescue. Several of the students attended in previous classes and came back for a refresher. I couldn't have worked with a more professional group of first responders and hope to train with you again soon.

Here's an excellent article from Creek Stewart at Willow Haven Outdoor that shows the versatility of a military poncho as a shelter. The Article came out a couple years back but is still significant today. There are many aftermarket style ponchos available if you don't want the camo patterns. A poncho should be the minimum you carry as a shelter option. If you ever tried putting up a mylar emergency blanket up in a blizzard it's almost impossible. Additionally one nick in the material of the emergency blanket and the whole things tears (better have plenty of duct tape) Afer a career in the army, I was already a believer but this is definitely worth reading.

This may be the perfect combination of tinder for a birds nests in primitive fire building. Dried broad leaf grass (Rough Tinder), the inner bark of cottonwood (Medium Tinder), and last years cattail to cradle the ember. What do you think?
