LaPorte HOSA- Future Health Professionals

We are so proud of our students for representing our Health Science program at the Regional Anatomage Competition held at the University of Saint Francis last Friday! 👏

In addition to competing, they had the incredible opportunity to participate in hands-on healthcare workshops that expanded their real-world skills and career exploration. Students rotated through:

🧵 Suturing Lab – Practiced proper technique and precision skills used in clinical settings.
🔬 Surgical Tech Workshop – Learned about sterile fields, instrumentation, and the critical role of surgical technologists in the OR.
🦠 Microbiology Lab – Explored pathogens, lab techniques, and infection control practices.
🫀 Cadaver Lab Experience – Studied human anatomy in a respectful, professional environment to deepen their understanding beyond the classroom.

Experiences like these give our students a true glimpse into healthcare careers and allow them to apply what they’ve learned in class to real-world settings. We are incredibly proud of their professionalism, curiosity, and dedication to becoming future healthcare leaders!

Surgical Day at Northwest Health 🩺🔬
A huge thank you to Northwest Health for providing our students with such an incredible hands-on learning experience! Our future healthcare professionals explored careers in radiology, sterile processing, surgical technology, anesthesiology, and clinical laboratory science.

An extra special moment was seeing former Slicer and LPHS HOSA: Future Health Professionals alumna Alyvia, now working as a Surgical Technologist and inspiring the next generation! 💙

Our Health Science/Pre-Nursing students had such an exciting day at the hospital! 🩺💙 They explored the fast-paced world of ER and ICU nursing, and even got to step into Radiography to see how imaging plays a huge role in patient care.

Opportunities like this give our students a chance to connect classroom learning with real-world healthcare careers—and their excitement shows! 🌟

🇬🇧 London Highlights – July 22–24 🇬🇧
Our Health Science group spent an exciting four days exploring London, packed with history, science, and hands-on learning!

🎡 We started with the London Eye, a 443-foot observation wheel on the River Thames that gave us incredible panoramic views of the city — from Big Ben to Buckingham Palace.

🏰 At the Tower of London, we learned about its 1,000-year history as a royal palace, prison, and fortress, and saw the dazzling Crown Jewels up close.

🔬 Students participated in a forensics workshop, took a Jack the Ripper walking tour, and explored medical history through a guided medical-themed tour of London.

🩺 The Florence Nightingale Museum gave us a deeper look at the founder of modern nursing, her work during the Crimean War, and her impact on public health.

🧠 At the Wellcome Collection, we explored exhibits combining medicine, science, and art — sparking meaningful conversations about the history of health and the human experience.

🧬 We also had the opportunity to speak with British medical professionals about the UK’s healthcare system and how it compares to ours.

🎭 To wrap up an unforgettable journey, we spent our final evening in London at the Lyric Theatre, where we watched a powerful performance of Hadestown—an inspiring and beautifully staged Broadway musical that left a lasting impression.

✈️ We flew home early on July 26th, leaving London with new knowledge, inspiration, and memories to last a lifetime.

This was a Health Science educational trip, but please note, it was not a school-sponsored event.

🇬🇧 We made it to Edinburgh, Scotland today! After landing, we explored the National Gallery of Scotland and enjoyed a walking tour through the charming and historic streets of Old Town. So much beauty and history already—and we’ve just begun!

Please join me in congratulating this incredible group of future healthcare professionals who officially earned their Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) credentials and walked at Ivy Tech’s graduation this May!

Their dedication, compassion, and hard work—both in the classroom and during clinicals—have truly paid off. They balanced high school, certification training, and college-level work with grit and grace, and now they’re leaving with a diploma and a head start in healthcare.

Here’s to bright futures and making a real difference in the lives of others. 👏❤️
