🎓💰 SCHOLARSHIP SATURDAY!💰🎓

🚨 CLASS OF 2027 — THIS IS A BIG ONE!🚨

The 2026–2027 Gates Scholarship application is OPEN!

And when I say this is one you need to look at, I mean TODAY — not the night before the deadline.

💰 THE GATES SCHOLARSHIP

The Gates Scholarship is a highly selective scholarship for outstanding high school seniors from low-income households.

Selected scholars can receive funding for the FULL COST OF ATTENDANCE that is not already covered by other financial aid and the Student Aid Index.

That can include:

🎓 Tuition
🏠 Housing & food
📚 Books
💵 Fees
…and potentially additional college-related expenses.

📌 WHO CAN APPLY?

Applicants must:

✅ Be a current high school senior

✅ Be Pell-eligible

✅ Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident

✅ Have at least a 3.3 cumulative weighted GPA on a 4.0 scale** (or equivalent)

✅ Plan to enroll full-time in a four-year degree program** at an accredited, not-for-profit U.S. college or university

The Gates Scholarship is looking for students with strong academics, leadership, involvement in their communities and extracurricular activities, and qualities such as motivation and perseverance.

⏰ DON'T MISS THIS DEADLINE!

🟢 Application: OPEN NOW

🔴 DEADLINE: SEPTEMBER 15, 2026

Seniors, September 15 will be here FAST.

Do not wait until September to start this application.

🎯 ONE SHOT EDUCATION TIP:

If you meet the basic eligibility requirements, APPLY.

Don't talk yourself out of an opportunity because you think other applicants may have better grades, more activities, or a stronger résumé.

Your job isn't to decide who deserves the scholarship.

Your job is to APPLY.

Parents — send this to your senior.

Students — SAVE THIS POST, review the eligibility requirements, create your profile, and START THE APPLICATION THIS WEEKEND.

⏱️🎯ACT TIPS FRIDAY!

You don’t have to answer every ACT question perfectly to improve your score, but you DO need to manage your time wisely!

✨THIS WEEK’S TIP: Don’t Let ONE Question Steal Your Time!

One of the biggest ACT mistakes students make is spending too much time on a difficult question.

You read it.

You read it again.

You try one approach.

Then another.

And before you know it… 3–4 minutes are gone.😩

Meanwhile, there may be easier questions waiting for you!

🎯 Use the SKIP & RETURN strategy:

1️⃣ Answer what you know.
If you know how to solve the question, get the point and keep moving.

2️⃣ Don’t wrestle with one question.
If you’re stuck and not making progress, mark it and move on.

3️⃣ Come back with your remaining time.
After you've worked through the section, return to the questions you skipped.

4️⃣ Never leave an answer blank.
The ACT does not penalize you for guessing. If time is running out, choose an answer!

Remember : Every question in a section is worth the same amount.

That extremely difficult question is not worth more points than the easy question you could miss because you ran out of time.

🎯 Protect your time. Protect your points. Keep moving.

🎓💰 **SCHOLARSHIP SATURDAY: GET A HEAD START!** 💰🎓

This week's scholarship isn't open *yet* and that's exactly why I'm telling you about it NOW.

🚨 **CLASS OF 2027: THE HAGAN SCHOLARSHIP OPENS SEPTEMBER 1!** 🚨

One of the biggest lessons I want students to learn through Scholarship Saturday is this:

**Don't wait until a scholarship opens to start preparing for it.**

The **Hagan Scholarship** is a nationwide need-based merit scholarship designed to help high-achieving, goal-driven students with financial need graduate from college with little or no debt.

And this is a BIG opportunity.

💰 **Up to $7,500 PER SEMESTER** for up to 8 consecutive semesters

🎓 That's potentially **up to $60,000 toward college**

💻 **$2,000** to help first-year recipients purchase essential items for college

🌎 Study abroad opportunities

📈 Schwab brokerage accounts and financial education

🎓 Eligible Hagan Scholars may also have opportunities for additional funding for graduate or professional school.

📌 IMPORTANT DATES

🟢 **Application Opens:** September 1, 2026
🔴 **Deadline:** December 1, 2026

But DON'T circle September 1 on your calendar and forget about it until then.

**START PREPARING NOW.**

Some important eligibility requirements include:

✅ Be in the **2027 high school graduating class**

✅ Attend a high school located in the United States

✅ Have at least a **3.50 unweighted cumulative GPA**

✅ Parents' 2025 Adjusted Gross Household Income must not exceed **$125,000**

✅ Plan to attend an eligible **four-year college or university** beginning the fall after high school graduation

✅ Meet the scholarship's employment requirement — including **240 hours of paid, non-family employment between January 1 and September 1, 2027**

📄 You'll also need a current high school transcript and a letter of recommendation as part of the application.

🎯 ONE SHOT EDUCATION TIP

**Don't wait for September 1 to start getting ready.**

Use the next couple of weeks to:

• Review ALL eligibility requirements
• Make sure you have access to your transcript
• Think about who you will ask for your recommendation
• Update your résumé/activity list
• Gather information about your leadership, service, activities, awards, and employment
• Read the application instructions and preparation tips

When that application opens on September 1, **BE READY TO APPLY.**

Parents — send this to your senior TODAY.

Students — SAVE THIS POST and put **SEPTEMBER 1** on your calendar.

Scholarship applications should not begin with, *“What's due this week?”*

They should begin with, **“What's coming next, and what can I do now to be ready?”**

That's how we approach scholarships at **One Shot Education.** 🎯🎓

🔗 Review the complete eligibility requirements and application information directly through the Hagan Scholarship Foundation.

📚🎯 **INTRODUCING ACT/SAT TIPS FRIDAY!**

ACT prep doesn’t have to feel overwhelming.

Every Friday, **One Shot Education** will share a quick ACT tip to help students strengthen their skills, improve their test-taking strategies, and prepare with purpose.

Whether you're preparing for your **first ACT** or working toward a **higher score**, these weekly tips are for you!

✨ **THIS WEEK’S TIP: Don’t Just Practice—Review Your Mistakes!**

Completing practice questions is only part of ACT/SAT preparation. Some of the BEST learning happens when you go back and figure out **why you missed a question.**

After every practice set, ask yourself:

1️⃣ **Why did I miss it?**
Was it a content gap, careless mistake, timing issue, or misunderstanding?

2️⃣ **What should I have noticed?**
Was there a grammar rule, formula, key word, graph detail, or clue that I overlooked?

3️⃣ **What will I do differently next time?**

📝 **Start an ACT Error Log.** Track the questions you miss, why you missed them, and the strategy or content you need to review.

Remember:

🎯 **The goal isn’t just to do more practice questions. The goal is to learn from every question you miss.**

Follow **One Shot Education ** every Friday for another **ACT Tips Friday!**

🎓 **COLLEGE APPLICATION TIP: CHOOSING THE RIGHT SCHOOLS**

Building your college list? Don’t choose schools based on the name alone! The goal is to find schools that are a good fit **academically, financially, and personally.**

Here are a few things to consider:

📚 **1. Does the school offer your major?**
Look beyond whether the major is simply listed. Research the department, courses, internship opportunities, research programs, and career outcomes.

🎯 **2. Build a BALANCED college list.**
Include a combination of:

* **Likely schools** – Your academic profile is above the typical admitted student.
* **Target schools** – Your GPA and test scores are similar to those of admitted students.
* **Reach schools** – Admission may be more competitive, but you could still be a strong applicant.

💰 **3. Consider the REAL cost.**
Don’t look only at the sticker price. Research scholarships, grants, financial aid, and the school’s average net price. A more expensive university may actually cost your family less after aid.

📍 **4. Think about location.**
Close to home or several states away? Big city or small college town? Warm weather or four seasons? Remember—you’re choosing where you may live for the next four years.

🏫 **5. Think about campus size and environment.**
Would you thrive at a university with 30,000+ students, or would you prefer a smaller campus where classes may be more intimate?

💼 **6. Look at opportunities AFTER the classroom.**
Research internships, study abroad, undergraduate research, career services, alumni networks, and graduate/professional school placement.

❤️ **7. Ask yourself: “Can I see myself here?”**
Prestige is great, but FIT matters. You want a school where you can grow, succeed, find your community, and prepare for your future.

⭐ **BONUS TIP:** Never apply to a “safety” school you wouldn't actually be happy attending.

Your college list should not be a list of impressive names; it should be a list of **real options you would be excited to call home.**

🎓 COLLEGE APPLICATION SEASON: DON’T WAIT UNTIL THE DEADLINE!

The Common App is open, scholarships are starting to roll out, and senior year is getting underway.

If you have a Class of 2027 senior, NOW is the time to get organized. 📚

This week, students should be working on:

✅ Finalizing the college list
✅ Reviewing admission requirements for EACH school
✅ Checking Early Action, Early Decision & Regular Decision deadlines
✅ Starting or polishing the Common App personal essay
✅ Creating a list of supplemental essays
✅ Asking for recommendation letters EARLY
✅ Updating the activities, honors & leadership list
✅ Reviewing ACT/SAT scores and deciding whether another test is needed
✅ Creating a scholarship calendar
✅ Making sure senior-year courses support college goals

One of the biggest mistakes I see during application season is waiting until October or November to start putting everything together.

A strong application takes TIME.

Your goal shouldn't be to simply submit an application.

Your goal is to submit an application that tells colleges:

🎯 Who you are
🎯 What you've accomplished
🎯 What you can contribute
🎯 Why YOU belong on their campus

Parents, sit down with your senior this week and ask one simple question:

**“What is our college application plan?”**

If the answer is, “I don't know yet,” that's your sign to get started.

🎓 One Shot. One Dream. Countless Possibilities.

🎓 **COLLEGE APPLICATION SEASON IS OFFICIALLY HERE!**

The **Common App is OPEN**, and many colleges and universities have begun accepting applications for the **2026–2027 admissions cycle**.

If you have a high school senior, **now is the time to get moving.** Don’t wait until October, November, or the week before a deadline to start putting everything together.

📌 **Seniors should be working on:**

✅ Creating/updating their Common App account
✅ Finalizing their college list
✅ Reviewing admission requirements and deadlines
✅ Drafting the Common App personal essay
✅ Completing supplemental essays
✅ Building an activities and honors list
✅ Requesting recommendation letters
✅ Reviewing transcripts and senior-year courses
✅ Sending ACT/SAT scores when appropriate
✅ Creating a scholarship search plan
✅ Checking Early Action, Early Decision, Priority, and Regular Decision deadlines

⚠️ **Remember: An application being open does NOT mean you should rush to submit an application that isn’t ready.**

**Early is good. Strong is better.**

Your application should tell your story: not just through your GPA and test scores, but through your accomplishments, leadership, service, experiences, interests, and goals.

🎓 **Class of 2027, your college application season has officially begun!**

Start early. Stay organized. Be intentional.

📚 **Need help navigating the college application process? Contact One Shot Education!** We can help students and families develop a plan, stay on top of deadlines, and move through the application process with confidence.
