We are tuition-free and offer county-wide school bus routes, as well as an inter-campus shuttle. Charter Schools are independent, tuition-free, public schools that operate under a performance contract with the local School District. Palm Beach Maritime Academy (PBMA) opened in 1999 with the intention of providing a hands-on academic experience in a safe environment emphasizing marine science and t
he ocean. PBMA integrates marine science with the Florida Standards through a variety of hands-on experiences designed to interest all types of learners and to facilitate learning across the curriculum. The school is rooted in literacy and we work with students both individually and in small groups to facilitate mastery of the standards. Although field trips have been limited due to COVID, students in all grades generally visit numerous destinations including the Broward and Palm Beach County Museums of Science, the Everglades, the Loxahatchee River Center, Daggerwing, the Jupiter Lighthouse, Gumbo Limbo, and many other locations. Students participate in the “Coastal Clean-up” and community events such as the “Lake Worth Street Painting Festival”, the “Remote Operated Vehicles” competition in Dania Beach, the Lantana Beach Clean-up and the Lantana’s “Winterfest Parade”. The school has also partnered with the University of Miami and Nova Southeastern University to provide annual “shark-tagging” experiences for our students using their boats and facilities. We are proud to announce that we also have a Naval Sea Cadet program for our students in Grades 6-12! The object of this fee-based programs is to “give young people mental, moral and physical training through the medium of Naval and other instruction, with the object of developing principles of patriotism and good citizenship and instilling in them a sense of duty, discipline, self-respect and respect for others”. The program has been very well-received and any student in good standing in Grades 6-12 is eligible to participate. In addition, our High School boasts a variety of opportunities for its students. These include many of the field trips listed above along with classes in Marine Science, Advanced Placement courses and Dual Enrollment. Its small size allows us to get to know our students and to individually guide them through the requirements for Graduation and beyond! For the safety of our staff and students, we have installed filter systems on all of our air conditioning units to kill germs related to COVID and have recommended cleaning protocols in place. Please look through our page, website (PalmBeachMaritimeAcademy.org)and videos, which feature a wide variety of information and will give you an idea of the many activities we have to offer. Applications are available on our website or at either of our campuses. We look forward to seeing you all soon!
