Athletic Hall of Fame Team Spotlight: ’13, ’14 & ’15 Boys Varsity Golf and the ’15 Boys Varsity Cross Country Team

The 2013, 2014, and 2015 Boys Varsity Golf Teams made their mark on Cougar history as three-time State Champions, building a championship legacy through three consecutive seasons of excellence.

The 2015 Boys Varsity Cross Country Team continued that tradition, capturing a State Championship and adding another team title to an unforgettable era of Cougar athletics.

Athletic Hall of Fame Spotlight: Abigail Gilmore (C17) and Jim Ahern (Contributor)

Abigail Gilmore (C17) built an outstanding legacy in both soccer and cross country. A three-time CAAC Girls Soccer All-Conference selection, Gilmore earned LSJ Division 3 Girls Soccer All-Area, MHSSCA All-District and All-Regional honors, and was named to the 2017 LSJ Girls Soccer Dream Team and 2017 All-Conference Honorary Captain.

In cross country, she was a three-time CAAC All-Conference and MITCA All-State honoree, earning LSJ All-Area and Dream Team recognition. She also earned multiple academic honors, including the CAAC Senior Scholar Athlete Award in 2017.

Jim Ahern served as the Lansing Catholic football coach from 2009–2020, leading the Cougars to three Division 5 State Championship appearances, including State Runner-Up finishes in 2011 and 2014 and a Division 5 State Championship in 2019.

That championship season also earned Ahern the title of Michigan High School Football Coach of the Year. His impact on the sport spans an incredible 53-year football coaching career.

Athletic Hall of Fame Spotlight: Havilah Johns (C95) & Zachary Zingsheim (C12)

Havilah Johns (C95) established herself as one of Lansing Catholic’s standout basketball players, earning BCAM All-State honors three times, including a spot on the 1995 BCAM All-State Dream Team. Johns was also named to the State Journal Fab Five (1994) and Super Six (1995), helped lead the Cougars to the 1995 State Championship, and was selected for the 1995 All-Star Game. She also earned a place on the Girls Basketball Honor Roll for scoring 35+ points in a game.

Zachary Zingsheim (C12) built an impressive legacy in cross country and track, helping lead Lansing Catholic to the 2011 Division 3 Cross Country State Championship and the 2012 Track State Championship. In 2012, Zingsheim was a D3 State Champion in the 80-meter event and competed on the 4x400, 4x200, and 4x800 state champion relay teams. He also set six school records during his career.

VOTE NOAH WEST FOR LSJ ATHLETE OF THE WEEK!

Lansing Catholic junior Noah West is up for LSJ Player of the Week after another dominant week on the court.

West helped the Cougars earn victories over Eaton Rapids and Charlotte, going a perfect 2-0 at No. 1 singles:

🎾 vs. Charlotte: 6-0, 6-0
🎾 vs. Eaton Rapids: 6-1, 6-0
🏆 Flight Champion at Paw Paw Quad
