Yesterday, Recruit Joshua Nye was appointed as the Captain for the 82nd Fire Academy. Recruit Nye was chosen by his peers and the instructor Cadre for demonstrating hard work and good leadership.
The class Captain acts as a liason between the instructor Cadre and the recruits on a daily basis. The Captain also works to motivate and encourage the other recruits to complete their assignments in a timely, complete and efficient manner.
Congratulations Recruit Nye!

Recruits of the 81st have completed the State portion of the academy and graduate this Thursday.
This week, they are working on completing the 24-hour MUSAR Confined Space Operations course with Captains Babcock and Mohre leading their instruction. This certification is yet another that our recruits get to make them job-ready, and is sought by fire departments.
Besides their Michigan Firefighter 1&2 with Hazardous Materials Operations, our recruits graduate with State certifications for Vehicle Extrication, Advanced Vehicle Stabilization, BLS/CPR, First Aid, IAFF Fireground Survival, Drivers Training, Forcible Entry, Ventilation, Hostile Fire Event, Live Fire, and the MUSAR Confined Space Operations.

Yesterday, recruits of the 81st really found out if they are afraid of heights. All 19 recruits successfully climbed Dewitt Township Fire's 100' aerial ladder.
Thank you to Chief Dekorte and the staff at Dewitt Township Fire Department for allowing this to happen once again.
