This is the time of year for FLOWERS! I took my group, Lansing Photo Meetup to the MSU Children's Garden last week. Please join our group for monthly outings like this.

Here is a Flower Photography tip:
Put your camera into Shutter Speed priority. Set the speed to 1`/200 second. This will be fast enough to stop the "Wind Wobble" effect and allow the camera to set the smallest possible F-Stop for maximum depth of field!

Using AI as a TOOL in creating great photos.
I am going to start posting a series of examples and applications that I have been using in my work recently to help my friends and fellow photographers better understand this technology. I usually use either Photoshops AI tools or Firefly.adobe.com
On a recent real estate shoot, there were too many towels in the shot, so I used AI to remove them and improve the lighting and color.
Let me know if you would be interested in a class or tutoring on how to use AI.

Photographing Snow Scenes

1. A fast shutter speed will stop flakes in their tracks

2. A slower shutter will give you a blurry view of the flakes and emulate more of a windy scene

3. Metering: Snow is WHITE and will likely over expose an image if it is predominate. Use the Exposure Compensation (usually a +/- button) to underexpose the image by at least -1.

4. Most winter scenes are naturally mono chromatic. Drop the saturation control and increase contrast in editing to emphasize.

Photographing the Aurora?

We were blessed recently with a good solar storm that gave NORTHERN Michigan a good light show. Rumors are there are more coming that will be visible in the Mid Michigan areas. So GET READY!

To photograph the aurora borealis, a light meter is useless. Set your digital camera to manual mode and adjust shutter speeds to 3-30 seconds. YES, it takes experimentation. Mount it on a tripod. Use a wide-angle lens.

You of course want the smallest F-Stop to allow the most light. A really high ISO isn't needed. Try 1600-6400

Auto focus is useless. Manual focus is necessary. Try focusing on a tree or some other far away object.

And then take a LOT of photos!! Remember that the camera is going to see considerably more than your human eyes.
