One message we discuss very frequently in the Nurturing Parenting Program is the concept of Control versus Accountability. Our job as parents is to hold our children accountable for the choices they make while giving them opportunities to make those choices. When we focus too much on control, we are often left feeling more frustrated with our families AND we aren't teaching children how to take control of their own lives. Co-parenting, whether you live in the same home or not, is a topic that we here at RAISE are very passionate about. There is a lot of common misconception that people who are cohabitating and raising their children in the same home do not clash when it comes to parenting styles. This couldn't be further from the truth. Whenever we are combining different sets of beliefs, histories, and practices there is always room to find common ground.
