🧪💛 Learning, Growing & Having Fun in 2nd Grade! 💛🧪

The first few weeks of school have been full of learning, laughter, and lots of hands-on fun in Ms. Aswegen’s 2nd grade classroom!

Students have been putting on their scientist hats for exciting science experiments, making observations, asking questions, and discovering how much fun learning can be! 🔬🧪

Just as importantly, the class has been working hard to build a strong classroom community. Through activities focused on kindness, teamwork, responsibility, perseverance, conflict resolution, and growth mindset, these second graders are learning what it means to be great classmates, leaders, and friends. 💛

They are off to an amazing start, and Ms. Aswegen’s classroom is already becoming a community of curious learners who support one another, take on challenges, and grow together! 🌱📚✨

💙 Filling Our Buckets with Kindness, Remembrance & Gratitude 🇺🇸

Mrs. Bruneau’s class celebrated filling their buckets with a fun Blanket Fort Day! 🏕️📚 Students enjoyed building cozy forts and spending time together while celebrating kindness and community.

The class also took time to learn about and remember the events of September 11, 2001. Students reflected on the lives lost that day and learned about the everyday heroes who showed incredible courage and selflessness, risking their own lives to help others.

Mrs. Bruneau’s class and all of us remember, honor, and expresses gratitude for the heroes whose actions continue to remind everyone of the importance of kindness, courage, and helping one another. ❤️🤍💙

We’ll also be getting our Homecoming parade float ready next week! Parents and families are welcome to come help us build, decorate, and bring our Winans float to life. The Homecoming theme is "Decades", and we are doing the "1950s!"

• Join the Superintendent's Advisory Council: We're looking for students, teachers/staff, and parents/guardians to join this group, which will meet three times throughout the year to discuss policies and issues directly with district leadership. Applications will be reviewed on September 30th.

• Rotary Food Kit Program Food Kit Sign Up: The Greater Lansing Food Bank and Delta-Waverly Rotary Club are working together again to provide take-home food kits for students. These are free and there are no eligibility requirements to receive them. The first food kit delivery will be the first week of October. Those who sign up by September 24th will be on the list for that delivery, but students can join the program at any point throughout the year.

• Community Open Houses and Board of Education Meetings: This fall the Board of Education is going on tour! We will be hosting our regular Board of Education meetings at 6:00pm at the following locations:

Monday, September 21st at Waverly High School

Monday, October 19th at Waverly Middle School

Monday, November 16th at C**t Early Childhood Education Center

Monday, December 7th at East Intermediate School

We will be hosting Community Open Houses from 5-6pm prior to these meetings. The purpose of these open houses is to bring community members into our beautifully renovated spaces and share how updates have impacted learning opportunities.

🪣💛 We’re filling buckets at Winans! 🖤💛

Our Winans Warriors came together for our school-wide Bucketfiller Kickoff Assembly! 🎉 Students learned how their words and actions can fill someone else’s bucket through kindness, respect, encouragement, and making positive choices.

We can’t wait to see our Warriors filling buckets all year long! 🌟🪣 Let’s make Winans a place where everyone feels valued, supported, and celebrated!

Our Winans Sunshine Committee treated our amazing staff to an Energy Bar to help power us through the week! 🔋✨ A little caffeine, a few sweet treats, and lots of appreciation for the incredible people who keep Winans shining every day! 🖤💛

🧪💃 Dancing Raisins in Mrs. McCafferty’s 4th Grade! 🕺🍇

Science was POPPING in Mrs. McCafferty’s classroom! 🫧🔬 Students conducted the Dancing Raisins Experiment, making observations, predictions, and watching in amazement as their raisins moved up and down!

Who knew raisins had such great dance moves?! 😂🍇💃 A fun, hands-on way to bring science to life! ✨🧠

🏫✨ If We Built a School… ✏️📚

Mrs. West’s 3rd graders put their creativity and teamwork to work! After reading If I Built a School by Chris Van Dusen, students worked collaboratively to design their very own dream schools. 💭🏫

From brainstorming big ideas to combining everyone’s creativity into one design, these students showed what amazing things can happen when we work together! 🤝💛🖤
