Ms. Ali Black’s 4th grade students dug into learning with a fun, hands-on lesson about soil layers! Students explored the different layers of soil and created their own interactive, editable soil models to demonstrate their understanding. This engaging activity brought science to life and gave students an opportunity to get creative while building their knowledge of Earth’s materials!

We're excited to partner with Booster to raise $20,000 to support Lansing PTA programs, family engagement events, and staff support!

This year's theme is Global Kitchen Club, where students will explore global cultures while learning about patience, generosity, creativity, reliability, and adaptability.

Learning in Action at Lansing Intermediate School!

Director of Teaching & Learning Miles Azzeh recently visited classrooms at Lansing Intermediate School and found students building important literacy skills, from inference and persuasive writing to vocabulary, comparing and contrasting, and comprehension!

Ms. Towner’s class practiced making inferences by rereading portions of their current novel. After watching Ms. Towner model the process, students had the opportunity to put those skills into practice independently.

Ms. Wickingson’s students put a fun Halloween twist on persuasive writing! Students guessed what she might dress up as for Halloween while using their writing skills to persuade her to choose their suggestion.

Ms. Holden’s class used hula hoops to create Venn diagrams as students practiced comparing and contrasting. They also strengthened vocabulary and comprehension by defining key words from their novels and digging into deeper comprehension questions.

Ms. Ketchum’s fifth graders had a great discussion about their current novel, Restart by Gordon Korman. Miles also spotted students from different classes working through the same novel together in the hallway!

Ms. Black’s fourth graders took their learning beyond the classroom with an evolution game in the common area. Students used rock-paper-scissors to move through different stages, from eggs to chickens to dinosaurs, while reinforcing concepts they had been learning in science.

We love seeing our LIS teachers find engaging ways to help students build skills, think deeply, and have fun while learning. Great work, Lansing Intermediate School!

We are incredibly grateful for Mrs. Caroline Reynolds, our Lansing Intermediate School Instructional Coach! Caroline is a valued member of our LIS team who makes a meaningful impact on both our staff and students. She is always willing to share her knowledge, provide thoughtful support, collaborate with teachers, and help us continue to grow in our instructional practices. Her encouragement, expertise, and positive attitude make a difference throughout our building. Caroline is someone our staff can count on, and we truly appreciate the time, care, and dedication she gives to Lansing Intermediate School each and every day. We are so fortunate to have her as part of our LIS family!

Mayor’s Christmas Tree Program Applications Now Available

The 2026 Mayor’s Christmas Tree Program is now accepting applications for Lansing families who may benefit from assistance this holiday season.

Applications are available at Lansing City Hall, 800 1st Terrace, or can be downloaded using the link below. Applicants must be Lansing residents and meet the program’s income eligibility requirements.

Completed applications and all required proof of income must be submitted to the City Clerk’s Office by noon on Friday, October 23, 2026.

Please review the application carefully for eligibility requirements and required documentation.

Community Event: Leavenworth’s Best Trunk or Treat

Looking for some Halloween fun for the family? Sagasu Family Martial Arts and Sagasu Kids are hosting Leavenworth’s Best Trunk or Treat on Friday, October 16, from 5:30–7:30 p.m.

This free community event will feature trunk-or-treating, a live DJ, raffle prizes, and family-friendly fun for all ages.
