Name It, Claim It: Learning in Action at LHS!
LHS Principal Dr. Alan Penrose is giving staff a chance to virtually step into one another’s classrooms through “Name It, Claim It,” a series highlighting the lessons, projects, and learning opportunities happening throughout Lansing High School.
This week’s feature takes us into Jordan Moshier’s Weight Training class, where students are using technology and data to improve their sprint performance.
Mr. Moshier shares what was happening:
“We have been using OVR Performance laser timing to improve our students' top-end sprint speed in our Weight Training class. The students in these photos are running a 10-yard fly sprint with a 10-yard acceleration zone. This means that the sprinter has 10 yards to accelerate as fast as possible, and the laser timing system is only measuring the final 10 yards after they have built momentum.
“The focus for this drill was to work on improving our starts, continuing to work on proper sprint mechanics, and maintaining our speed. The fastest girl time of the day was 1.26 seconds (16.2 MPH), and the fastest boy time was 1.06 seconds (19.3 MPH).”
What a great example of students combining physical performance, technology, and real-time data to measure progress and put proper technique into practice!
Thank you to Mr. Moshier for giving us a look inside his classroom and showing another way our LHS students are learning in action!
